She and her family had received threats
Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of Punjabi influencer Kanchan Kumari, widely known as ‘Kamal Kaur Bhabhi’.
A third suspect is on the run.
Kumari’s body was discovered inside a car in the parking area of Adesh University in Bathinda on June 11, 2025.
Originally from Ludhiana, Kumari had a significant online presence, with 402,000 Instagram followers.
It was reported that Kumari had “attracted controversy” with some of her posts.
She and her family had received threats in 2024 that warned her to stop posting “inappropriate” videos and pressured her to remove ‘Kaur’ from her profiles.

Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh were arrested. However, Amritpal Singh remains at large.
Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police Amneet Kaur Kondal said:
“Both accused have been arrested along with the Scorpio vehicle used in the crime.
“Amritpal Singh and Nimratjit Singh have two and one FIRs pending against them, respectively, registered at Amritsar and Dhanaula police stations.”
Police said Kumari’s mother, Girja Devi, informed them that on the night of June 7, Amritpal came to their home in Ludhiana.
He allegedly requested Kamal Kaur Bhabhi to travel to Bathinda for a promotional event. Amritpal returned the following day, but the influencer declined.
On June 9, Jaspreet and Nimratjit visited the home and Kumari left with them.
At around 1 am on June 10, police say Kumari was taken to a deserted location, where an argument broke out.
She was allegedly murdered and placed in the back seat of a vehicle.
The car was left in the Adesh University hospital parking lot at around 5:30 am.
According to officers, Jaspreet drove the vehicle containing the body, while Nimratjit followed in a second car. The two then fled in Nimratjit’s vehicle.

Girja Devi lost contact with her daughter after 11 pm on June 9.
The case came to light when a foul smell was reported from a parked car at Adesh University. Officers from Cantonment Police Station found a severely burnt woman’s body in the rear seat.
The remains were taken to Civil Hospital, Bathinda, for identification.
The following day, Girja Devi confirmed the body was her daughter.
Police registered an FIR under sections 103 (murder), 238 (disappearance), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Cantonment Police Station.
SSP Kondal formed multiple investigation teams, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Narinder Singh and Deputy Superintendent of Police Manjit Singh.
The suspects were tracked and arrested. They are expected to be produced in court for police remand.
SSP Kondal said: “More important revelations are expected during their custodial interrogation.”
Amritpal had previously been booked in an attempted murder case in Amritsar. Both Amritpal and Nimratjit were also named in a Dhanaula case involving wrongful confinement and causing hurt.
