When dance reflects that excitement, it can spell entertainment galore.
DESIblitz invites you on a journey that will tell you all about such onscreen acts.
We showcase 10 Bollywood dance sequences featuring male duos.
Yamma Yamma – Shaan (1980)
When it comes to classic onscreen male duos, Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan top the list.
The pair cemented their tremendous working relationship in Deewaar (1975) and went on to appear together in many popular films.
One of those movies is Ramesh Sippy’s Shaan, in which Shashi and Amitabh play Ravi Kumar and Vijay Kumar respectively.
‘Yamma Yamma’ is an energetic dance number that highlights the beloved chemistry between the actors.
The choreography is adorned with complex footwork but both the stars nail that.
Shaan is a cult classic, and ‘Yamma Yamma’ definitely contributed to that.
Tu Kal Chala Jayega – Naam (1986)
In the mid-1980s, Kumar Gaurav and Sanjay Dutt were two of the most promising new faces.
They had established their fanbases and hence many were curious to see both of them together onscreen.
In Mahesh Bhatt’s Naam, they play brothers: Ravi Kapoor (Kumar) and Vicky Kapoor (Sanjay).
‘Tu Kal Chala Jayega’ is a song that epitomises brotherhood, as Ravi and Vicky dance the night away.
The dance masks their devastation at separating from each other, as Vicky is soon leaving for Dubai.
Ravi and Vicky dance in drunken brawls and create drama on the streets.
This involves rickshaws and buses. Kumar and Sanjay perform with vigour and their chemistry is unique.
Imli Ka Boota – Saudagar (1991)
This song from Saudagar proves that age is not an obstacle in the path of talent.
The film stars veteran actors Dilip Kumar (Veer ‘Veeru’ Singh/Dadaveer) and Raaj Kumar (Rajeshwar ‘Raja’ Singh Thakur/Dada Thakur).
Both the characters are friends, emerging from a deadly feud.
‘Imli Ka Boota’ shows them preserving their friendship as the two men dance merrily in the streets.
Saudagar reunited Dilip Sahab and Raaj Sahab onscreen over 30 years after Paigham (1959).
Director Subhash Ghai shares Raaj Sahab’s reaction to working with Dilip Sahab again:
“[Raaj Sahab] said, ‘Jaani, after myself, if there’s one person in India whom I consider an actor, it is Dilip Kumar. When Dilip Kumar comes in front of me, it will be fun’.”
Fun is the jewel of ‘Imli Ka Boota’, making the song a dynamic dance sequence.
Do Mastane – Andaz Apna Apna (1994)
In 1994, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan were two popular romantic stars.
Naturally, people were excited when both of them united onscreen together.
Andaz Apna Apna sees the two actors let go of their romantic personas and go out-and-out comedic.
in ‘Do Mastane’, Amar Manohar (Aamir) and Prem Bhopali (Salman) meet for the first time.
Though they secretly despise each other, they pretend to get along.
In this humorous dance performance, they prance around atop a bus, singing about making their fortunes.
Andaz Apna Apna thrives highly on friendship and comedy.
Aamir and Salman’s chemistry is a masterstroke, for which ‘Do Mastane’ beautifully sets the tone.
Bhangda Paale – Karan Arjun (1995)
Continuing with the evergreen work of Salman Khan, we come to Rakesh Roshan’s Karan Arjun.
In this film, Salman collaborates with Shah Rukh Khan for the first time.
‘Bhangda Paale’ comes at a time of conflict resolution in the film.
Karan Singh/Ajay (Salman) and Arjun Singh/Vijay happily shake a leg, which provides a sense of relief in this hard-hitting movie.
Bindiya (Mamta Kulkarni) joins in the fun while a proud Durga Singh (Raakhee) watches on.
The song’s intricate choreography is impressive as one can’t tell if Salman or Shah Rukh perform better.
They use swords and camels as ornaments in the performance, making it original.
Karan Arjun is renowned for the brotherhood Salman and SRK project.
That bond is encapsulated by ‘Bhangda Paale – a song which both superstars continue to dance to at various public appearances.
Desi Girl – Dostana (2008)
In Dostana, Abhishek Bachchan (Sameer ‘Sam’ Malhotra) and John Abraham (Kunal Chauhan) take centre stage.
‘Desi Girl’ shows the two bachelors trying to woo and entice Neha Melwani (Priyanka Chopra Jonas).
The chartbuster is fast and energetic, and it requires considerable concentration.
Many steps are in unison, but Abhishek and John handle this marvellously.
In one particular sequence in the routine, they dance together without Neha.
The steps are funny, and accurately demonstrate why these actors are one of Bollywood’s most charming male duos.
‘Desi Girl’ continues to be performed by many fans at events.
It is also one of the most popular numbers of the singer Sunidhi Chauhan.
Tu Ne Maari Entriyaan – Gunday (2014)
Gunday stars Ranveer Singh (Bikram Bose) and Arjun Kapoor (Bala Bhattacharya).
Similar to the aforementioned ‘Desi Girl’, this upbeat number also features Priyanka Chopra Jonas in between a male pair.
Priyanka plays Inspector Nandita Sengupta, who happily dances with Bikram and Bala.
Known for their raucous energy, Arjun and Ranveer give their all to the choreography, making this song a delight to watch.
Arjun Kapoor delves into the bond that he and Ranveer shared while working on the film:
“I think it was the off-camera love and respect we had for each other because we realised how much we have in common.
“We were two people who were completely different but we just ended up getting along and working well together.”
‘Tu Ne Maari Entriyaan’ is a captivating dance sequence and the bond between this male duo is evident for all to enjoy.
Bhopu Baj Raha Hain – Sanju (2018)
This song is one that was not included in the final copy of Sanju.
Rajkumar Hirani directs this sterling biopic of Sanjay Dutt, with Ranbir Kapoor portraying the titular actor.
Meanwhile, Vicky Kaushal stars as Sanjay’s best friend Kamlesh ‘Kamli’ Kanhaiyalal Kapaasi.
In ‘Bhopu Baj Raha Hai’, Sanjay and Kamli’s friendship is in full force.
They dance without a care in the world, highlighting their attraction and inhibitions.
The song is an ode to 1990s music.
Regarding Sanju, Ranbir was particularly lauded for the way he melded into the character of Sanjay Dutt.
When it comes to this dance sequence, a fan on YouTube comments:
“Ranbir exactly dancing like [Sanjay]. Too good, man!”
Vicky and Ranbir have an undeniable chemistry in the film.

Vashmalle – Thugs of Hindostan (2018)
This film is a highlight of Indian cinema.
It is the first movie to star movie legends Amitabh Bachchan (Khudabaksh ‘Azaad’ Jhaazi) and Aamir Khan (Firangi Mallah) together onscreen.
Millions of viewers were waiting with bated breath to get a dose of their chemistry.
This dance number shows Khudabaksh and Firangi sway together as they lay down their new association.
Khudabaksh hilariously chastises Firangi’s spontaneity and leads him into other steps.
The song is choreographed by Prabhu Deva. Aamir reveals his advice in performing the song:
“What Prabhu told me is, ‘More than the steps, I just want you to enjoy yourself and have a great time’.
“I figured that this is my one chance to dance with Mr Bachchan, so I’m going to have the time of my life!”
That certainly shows in ‘Vashmalle’.
While Thugs of Hindostan did not do well at the box office as a film, one cannot discredit the energy and enjoyment in this dance sequence.
Jai Jai Shiv Shankar – War (2019)
Inspired by Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar’s classic duet from Aap Ki Kasam (1974), this lively dance song is the anthem of War.
Hrithik Roshan plays Major Kabir Dhaliwal while Tiger Shroff inhabits the world of Captain Khalid Rahmani.
It is thrilling to see these two good-looking, capable actors go head-to-head in a zestful dance face-off.
Hrithik has consistently proven himself as a dancer for the ages, but Tiger truly holds his own.
Director Siddharth Anand discloses that Hrithik and Tiger rehearsed for three weeks for the song.
He elaborates: “While people were wowed that two of the biggest action heroes of India were combining for the first time, they were equally excited to see them dance together in War.
“This has been the biggest anticipation which automatically becomes a huge pressure for the people to deliver a cracking song that should become an anthem.”
‘Jai Jai Shiv Shankar’ is a song that should be played the world over.
Male duos set the screen ablaze when they meld their awesome chemistry with captivating dance.
These songs contain routines that are dynamic, effervescent, and enigmatic.
