"You will be subjected to scrutiny."
Kajol has confirmed that her daughter, Nysa Devgan, will not be entering Bollywood, citing the intense criticism and scrutiny faced by star kids in the industry.
In an interview with ETimes, Kajol shared that Nysa, now 22, has decided against acting.
She added that her daughter has “pretty much made up her mind.”
The actress explained: “She’s not stepping into acting. She is 22 years old, and she has pretty much made up her mind that she’s not going to be joining the industry.”
Kajol also reflected on the debate around nepotism, acknowledging that children of stars face amplified criticism when entering films and that navigating it becomes part of their journey.
She said: “When you enter the film industry, you have to realise that there are pros and cons and you will be subjected to scrutiny.”
“Some of it is harsh, some of it is ridiculous and horrible, but it is all part of your growth and journey,” Kajol explained further.
The actress stressed that while public judgment may seem unfair, it is something that all aspiring actors, regardless of their background, must face once they join the industry.
Back in March 2025, Kajol had addressed similar questions about Nysa’s possible acting debut at News18’s Rising Bharat Summit, where she dismissed ongoing speculation.
At the time, she said: “Bilkul nahi… no, I think… wo 22 saal ki ho gayi hai… hone wali hai abhi… I think she has made up her mind that ki nahi aane wali hai abhi.”
Her statement clarified once more that Nysa has no current plans to follow in the footsteps of her parents, Ajay Devgn and Kajol, within Bollywood.
While Nysa steps away from the limelight, Kajol continues to take on new roles.
She was last seen in Sarzameen alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan.
Speaking about her role to IANS, she said: “Sarzameen called for an emotional depth that really intrigued me as an actor. The role resonated with me on a very personal level.”
Kajol praised debutant Ibrahim Ali Khan, stating that he “brought to life such a complex character,” while describing her own character as the “emotional core of the story.”
She credited director Kayoze Irani’s vision for portraying her role with nuance, adding that she looks forward to the release and audience reception of Sarzameen.
For now, Kajol has made it clear that while she continues to evolve as an actress, her daughter is pursuing her own path away from Bollywood.
