“My parents are happy with my work now"
Television drama Kabli Pulao is taking Pakistan by storm, with much of the attention on Sabeena Farooq who plays Barbeena.
Kabli Pulao is about a young Afghani woman who gets accidentally married to a middle-aged Pakistani Punjabi man.
It follows these two individuals and how they navigate this relationship.
Sabeena is receiving praise for her role as Barbeena.
But who is Sabeena Farooq and why is she so popular with her audience?
The 29-year-old was born to a Punjabi father and Pashtun mother in Islamabad. She has one brother and one sister.
Sabeena is a graduate of Media Sciences and fell into the world of acting by accident after her college seniors told her she had a knack for acting and she should pursue it as a career.
Sabeena said she went to the PTV office, which was close to her university, for auditions.
It was there that she got selected for her debut drama serial Dhanak, in which she performed alongside Nauman Ijaz.
She revealed that her parents were initially not happy when she announced she wanted to act.
She went on to say that it was in fact her elder sister who convinced their parents to let Sabeena try her hand in acting.
Speaking on Nida Yasir’s morning show, Sabeena said:
“I fought for my passion. If I asked for permission to act I would not have got the permission, so I fought for it.
“My parents are happy with my work now, they pray for me and my success.”
Sabeena has since made a name for herself in many popular drama serials such as Suno Chanda, Kashf, Muqaddar, Mohlat and Logh Kya Kahenge.
She was recognised for her part in Suno Chanda in which she played the daughter of a strict Pashtun father.
Sabeena was applauded for her sarcasm and comedic timing in the serial.
She is a familiar face among drama enthusiasts because she played the scheming Haya in Tere Bin.
Throughout the series, she would do whatever it took to win over her love interest Murtasim, who was already married to Meerab.
Sabeena admitted that she initially did not want to play Haya.
However, she is grateful she accepted the role because of the recognition she received.
Sabeena Farooq recently revealed that Kabli Pulao is trending at number one on YouTube.
Fans came together to congratulate her on her success.
One fan said: “I have no words to explain how wonderfully you have played this role. I can see you being the next big thing in Pakistan.”
Another wrote: “Love this drama.
