Amir Khan is set to reveal his true feelings about his £1 million wedding on I’m A Celebrity… South Africa.
The retired boxer entered the new all-stars series and competed in his first challenge on April 24, 2023.
On April 25’s episode, Amir will tell his campmates about his nuptials after he and Faryal Makhdoom had a lavish wedding in New York at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in 2013.
A week after their marriage, the couple had a second bash in Amir’s hometown of Bolton.
While there were 300 people in attendance at their New York ceremony, it is reported that there were 4,000 guests at the UK celebration.
Celebrity guests included Wayne Rooney and David Haye.
During their wedding, Amir and Faryal sat on gold thrones and sold the pictures to Hello! magazine for an undisclosed sum.
Amir also performed a Bollywood dance routine with his ushers.
It is believed that the total amount spent was £1 million.
But now, Amir is set to admit that he did not enjoy his wedding.
Speaking to his campmates, he reveals:
“Family, friends – everyone likes to be there.
“If you call one family member, they want to bring their auntie, uncle, cousin, sister.
“The ice cream van man got an invitation as well!”
Stating that he had no control over the invites, Amir continued:
“I was not in charge of the invitations. I didn’t get to enjoy it, to be honest with you.
“There were that many people there. It was like a massive gala, like a big event.
“That’s why now, if I was ever to do it again, it would be me and the wife, and keep it really simple.”
Stunned by the hefty sum spent, former javelin thrower Fatima Whitbread said:
“What a waste of money!”
Amir Khan’s honest thoughts come after Faryal admitted she would change “everything” about her wedding if she could go back in time.
The influencer said she would do things very differently, adding she would like a smaller ceremony to renew her vows on their 10th anniversary.
On Meet the Khans: Big in Bolton, Faryal said:
“I wish I could change everything about my wedding.
“I’d changed the way I dressed because I’m more in fashion now and I’m definitely more confident to be who I am and be in front of the camera all the time.'”
When asked if she’d renew her vows, she said:
“Maybe on my tenth anniversary…
“I think I would just do a beach wedding with a hundred people you know rather than 4,000 people that you barely even know, and really enjoy it.”
Amir Khan and Faryal Makhdoom were engaged in January 2012 and they later held a star-studded engagement party for 1,000 people at the University of Bolton Stadium.
