“I’m not that surprised he’s selling."
Bolton locals have claimed they know why Amir Khan is selling his luxury wedding venue.
Amir put his £12 million venue in Bolton up for sale just three months after it hosted its first marriage.
The lavish Dubai-style tower features glass walls, a waterfall and palm trees.
But locals have claimed there are a number of reasons why Amir is selling The Balmayna.
Retired steelworker Bhoggi Patel said:
“I’ve only seen one wedding there when there were big fireworks.
“It has flopped and it must have cost him a lot of money.
“We were all surprised he built it here. I know it’s his home town but he could have chosen somewhere nicer to build it.
“When you get married you want some nice gardens to have your picture taken and certainly not by a main road.
“I’m not surprised he’s selling up. He must have lost a fortune.
“Residents claim there have been more weddings of late after a slow start.”
Meanwhile, Hijab Sayed claimed:
“My house backs onto it. I can smell the meat when they are barbecuing it and I can look in.
“They cook the food outside and then take it in.
“There’s been about nine weddings in the last month or so but before that, I think there had only been one.
“I’m not that surprised he’s selling. He seems to spend most of his time in Dubai.
“Maybe he has lost interest and it hasn’t been that busy.”
Omar Amirat, who lives near the entrance, said:
“There was just the one wedding to start with.
“But then it has picked up in the last few weeks with quite a few weddings.
“You see a lot of very expensive cars here.
“However he has other businesses he was hoping to sell in there like shops and a conference centre.”
“But no one is interested in those. It has just been weddings.
“I think it might be turned into a shopping centre or flats.
“It’s a real shame it hasn’t worked out. I just think it was a strange place to build such an expensive venue.”
Amir Khan announced the decision in a now-deleted X post.
He wrote: “I am looking to sell my wedding hall for £12.5 million.
“The property features four floors, including three dedicated wedding floors and a rooftop events terrace.
“Additionally, there is parking available at both the front and rear, accommodating up to 200 vehicles.”
He invited interested parties to get in touch with him over email.
