"I am looking to sell my wedding hall for £12.5 million."
Amir Khan is selling his luxury wedding venue in Bolton for £12.5 million just three months after it opened.
The boxing legend’s ‘Dubai-style’ tower opened in May 2024 after a string of delays.
The venue’s first wedding was a lavish one but the building is not in a pleasant location, sitting opposite a car wash and fly-tipping spot.
Named ‘The Balmayna’, the venue was near broken fridges, sofas and dirty mattresses in January due to fly-tippers.
Amir purchased the building over a decade ago and plans were first revealed in 2013.
His investment was initially £5 million but that quickly increased, reportedly up to £12 million.
A string of delays added to the problems, something Amir blamed on “unprofessional management”.
The venue has just opened but now, Amir – who once even aspired to host boxing events – is inviting bidders to take it off his hands.
He tweeted: “I am looking to sell my wedding hall for £12.5 million.
“The property features four floors, including three dedicated wedding floors and a rooftop events terrace.
“Additionally, there is parking available at both the front and rear, accommodating up to 200 vehicles.”
He also invited interested parties to get in touch with him over email.
The sale announcement led to trolling in the comments section, with one person commenting:
“I’ll give you 1p.”
Another wrote: “You forgot to add awful location to the listing.”
A third added:
“Running low on funds are you?”
Amir Khan’s intention to sell The Balmayna comes just three months after its grand opening where the bride and groom celebrated in style.
Videos showed guests being serenaded by violins in front of palm trees and eating fruit canapes.
Just a couple of months before the wedding, pictures showed the venue’s grand chandelier hanging from a corrugated metal roof near a smoke alarm and cables.
But images from the wedding showed how staff were quickly able to fix these issues.
A Balmayna spokesperson said at the time:
“The first love story at the Balmayna. So elegant, so magical, simply a dream.
“We wish our bride and groom the most happiest of blessings. Such a stunning backdrop for your memories.”
At the start of 2024, locals were far from happy with the design, with one person commenting:
“It’s an absolute eyesore!!!! A blot on the landscape!!! It’s a huge lack of class! It also doesn’t look anything at all like the image portrayed.”
It was also a fly-tipping spot, with one person saying:
“The venue is walled off, but all around it is full of fly-tipping.
“It is absolutely awful and needs cleaning up. It is disgusting. There are black bin bags with rubbish spilling out of them as well as old matrasses and everything else, including broken furniture.
“It really is not great.”
Amir Khan later clarified that he was selling the property.
In another tweet, he said: “I would like to clarify that although I am in the process of selling the property, The Balmayna continues to operate without interruption.
“The business is flourishing, experiencing significant demand for weddings and events, and our schedule is rapidly filling with bookings extending into 2026.
“All operations and reservations will proceed as intended.”
