Former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram and his Aussie wife Shaniera welcomed a healthy baby girl on Saturday 27 December 2014.
Wasim became father for the third time as Shaniera Akram gave birth to a beautiful baby daughter at a private hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
Shaniera who had travelled to her native country earlier in preparation for giving birth was later joined by husband Wasim.
Akram was supposed to be commentating for Star Sports on India’s tour down under, but had already taken leave citing family commitments.
Wasim’s two sons Taimur and Akbar from his previous marriage to Huma also arrived in Australia as part of their christmas vacations. Akram’s first wife Huma had sadly passed away in 2009 due to multiple organ failure.
The Sultan of Swing who married Shaniera in 2013 shared a picture of their little angel on social networking site twitter as he announced the news:
“@iamShaniera and I are very excited to announce the arrival of our baby girl Aiyla Akram born on 27/12/14. #blessed.”
Shaniera a former public relations consultant shortly afterwards retweeted Wasim’s post on her twitter page.
In late 2014 after the couple announced that they were expecting their first child, fans had suggested quite a few names on twitter.
Names such as Mahnoor and Maham were put forward. The Akram family however decided to name the newborn, Aiyla, which means Moonlight.
Speaking to the media, the legendary fast bowler said the whole family, including Taimur and Akbar were very happy on the birth of baby Aiyla. He added:
“It was a different feeling when I saw my daughter for the first time.”
Wasim’s Dubai-based Business manager, Arsalan Shah confirmed the news revealing that both mother and daughter were fine and in good health post delivery. Speaking from the UAE, Arsalan said:
“The health of newly-born baby and her mother are very good. The exact weight of the baby girl is not known but from the photograph of her shows she is likely to be of 7-8 lbs weight.”
“Akram will enjoy fatherhood more this time because when his two sons were born, he was travelling a lot for cricket,” added the manager.
Arsalan also tweeted an adorable snap of Shaniera with her daughter Aiyla.
As the news broke out, friends, fans and followers from around the world congratulated the proud parents and blessed the baby.
Renowned Indian commentator and Journalist, Harsha Bhogle congratulated one of the most lovable couples of 2014 tweeting:
“Hearty congratulations to @wasimakramlive and @iamShaniera on the arrival of their baby girl.”
Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Peter Heyward also wished Wasim and Shaniera as he posted the following message on twitter:
“Congratulations and best wishes to Shaniera and Wasim Akram on the arrival of baby Aiyla.”
Celebrities such as Alan Wilkins, Azhar Mahmood and Saeed Ajmal also tweeted congratulatory messages on their twitter accounts.
Meanwhile Shaniera who became mother for the first time expressed her happiness on behalf of the family as she tweeted:
“Wasim, myself & our boys would like to thank everyone for welcoming our little princess Aiyla into the world. We couldn’t be happier.”
After being discharged from hospital on Sunday 28 December 2014, Wasim and Shaniera took their precious bundle of joy home.
With both parents bonding well with the newly born, father Wasim wrote on twitter saying:
“@iamShaniera and I are just so happy and in love with our little angel.Thank you to everyone for your warm wishes, means a lot to us #Aiyla.”
As well as having a famous father, baby Aiyla has also been blessed with a sweet and caring mother. Aiyla is sure to be daddy’s little girl and a best friend to her mother.
Being born to parents of Australian and Pakistani heritage, Aiyla will no doubt get to experience the best of both cultures.
