"We have finished writing the story."
Vikas Bahl officially confirmed that a sequel to his 2013 blockbuster Queen is being made.
Starring Kangana Ranaut, Queen explored themes of feminism and self-discovery and has become a classic.
In October 2023, Vikas Bahl revealed that he was thinking about making a sequel.
The director had said: “Every day I wake up with a thought of making Queen 2, and hopelessly, I will definitely announce it someday.
“Kangana is a brilliant actress, and I cannot imagine anyone else but only her for Queen 2.
“I will make the film only with her and no one else.”
Since then, fans have been excited about the prospect of an extension to the much-loved film.
In a recent interview, Vikas Bahl explained that the writing of the sequel is completed.
He stated: “It makes me feel like the film was released just yesterday.
“I am happy to say that we have finished writing the story.
“So yes, the sequel should happen.
“If I didn’t feel the pressure of matching up to the expectations that people have from the sequel, I would have already made it four years back just for money.
“But we were sure we wouldn’t do it until we got a story that delivered as much as Queen did.
Queen followed the story of Rani Mehra (Kangana Ranaut) – a sheltered girl who is dumped by her fiancee Vijay Dhingra (Rajkummar Rao) two days before her wedding.
Rani then embarks on an exhilarating journey when she decides to go on her honeymoon alone.
The bustling streets of Paris and Amsterdam introduce her to spirited friends, including the vivacious, outgoing Vijayalakshmi (Lisa Haydon).
A huge success for Kangana, the film won her the 2015 Filmfare Award for ‘Best Actress’.
She also wrote dialogues for the movie.
Speaking of the film’s impact on her life and career, the actress said:
“Queen released, changed my life and Indian cinema forever.
“It marked the birth of a new leading lady and woman-centric parallel cinema.”
“Queen is not just a film for me. It was an explosion of everything I ever deserved [that] was kept away from me for 10 long years.
“Everything came all at once, it was overwhelming.”
With so much love and adulation, this update regarding the sequel is exciting news for fans.
On the work front, Vikas Bahl is gearing up for his film Shaitaan. Starring Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan, it is scheduled to be released on March 8, 2024.
