"Queen released, changed my life and Indian cinema forever."

Filmmaker Vikas Bahl has opened up about the possibility of a sequel to his 2013 blockbuster Queen.

Queen was a game-changer for Bollywood, which capitalised greatly on its themes of empowerment and feminism.

The film starred Kangana Ranaut as Rani Mehra.

She is a sheltered, timid girl who goes on her honeymoon alone after getting dumped by her partner Vijay Dhingra (Rajkummar Rao).

On her incredible journey of self-discovery, Rani befriends the vivacious and spirited Vijayalakshmi (Lisa Haydon).

Queen did wonders for Kangana’s career. She won ‘Best Actress’ at the 2015 Filmfare Awards.

Kangana commented on the film’s impact on her:

Queen released, changed my life and Indian cinema forever. It marked the birth of a new leading lady and woman-centric parallel cinema.

Queen is not just a film for me. It was an explosion of everything I ever deserved [that] was kept away from me for 10 long years.

“Everything came all at once, it was overwhelming.”

Vikas confirmed that he has been planning Queen 2:

“Every day I wake up with a thought of making Queen 2, and hopelessly, I will definitely announce it someday.”

The Super 30 director also asserted that the sequel would only be made with Kangana reprising her role:

“Kangana is a brilliant actress, and I cannot imagine anyone else but only her for Queen 2.

“I will make the film only with her and no one else.”

Vikas also won the ‘Best Director’ Filmfare award for Queen in 2015.

Sharing the statements of Vikas on her Instagram story, Kangana excitedly wrote: “Yessss!”

On the work front, Vikas helmed the dystopian action film Ganapath (2023).

It was released on October 20, 2023, and featured Amitabh Bachchan and Tiger Shroff.

Meanwhile, Kangana is currently working on her directorial venture Emergency, in which she will essay the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Announcing a delay in production, Kangana said: “Emergency movie is the culmination of my entire life’s learnings and earnings as an artist.

Emergency is not just a film for me. It’s a test of my worth and character as an individual.”

“Tremendous response that our teaser and other units got from everyone encouraged us all.”

“My heart is full of gratitude and wherever I go people ask me about Emergency’s release date.

“We have announced Emergency release date as November 24, 2023, but because of all the changes in my back-to-back releasing films calendar and over-packed last quarter of 2024, we have decided to shift Emergency to next year (2024).

“New release date will be announced soon, please bear with us. Your anticipation, curiosity and excitement for the film means a lot.”

While Emergency is an exciting project, a possible sequel to Queen is amazing news for Kangana Ranaut fans.
