"The rest of the world made stuff up"

Fahad Mustafa spoke to Ahmed Ali Butt about the success of his game show Jeeto Pakistan and admitted that the late Aamir Liaquat was responsible for the amount of success the show received.

Ahmed went on to ask questions about the pair’s rumoured tumultuous relationship and Fahad proceeded to clear the air.

Fahad compared Jeeto Pakistan to acting in dramas and said that the difference between the two was that he was not required to play a character in the game show and was allowed to be his authentic self.

He said: “I have flirted on Jeeto Pakistan, I have placed my hand on girls’ heads, made aunties sit on bikes as well as men and girls.

“You know how they say ‘A show ran on PTV at night and in the morning it is a hit’.

“People got so much recognition one can’t even imagine. They would come at night and become heroes of their society the next day.

“The show evolved and the biggest credit for that goes to Aamir Liaquat, may God grant him a place in heaven.

“That competition was so much fun. I had a blast and I missed him.”

Ahmed asked Fahad if he had been friends with Aamir.

Fahad replied: “I was never impolite towards him nor was he to me. The rest of the world made stuff up, he was a good-hearted man.

“But see, it’s a facade, it’s a rivalry of two channels. It’s a competition for the same slot.

“How can you let it go? You can’t. There was a competition, it was so much fun!”

The conversation turned to Fahad’s many talents, which also include singing, and it was revealed that he was also a good sportsman in cricket, badminton, snooker and table tennis.

He continued:

“I hang out with Asim Azhar. He is an amazing singer. When he starts singing I say ok let’s stay quiet. I get a reality check.”

Ahmed quipped: “I wish that happened with your acting too.”

Fahad Mustafa highlighted his acting career and pointed out that he was unsure whether he missed acting or not because he saw himself more as a producer.

He explained: “I have done so many serials in my life.

“Not as many as other actors have done because at that time this would also happen. Faysal [Quraishi] would do five serials at one time.

“It’s not that he is wrong or I am right, that was just my capacity. I can only do one at a time.

“Now that I am a producer I have hosted focus groups and I know what people are looking for.”

Fahad concluded that he enjoyed working in television and has not ruled out a return to acting.
