"You just get 3-4 good surgeries. We will star with you."
Fahad Mustafa is facing backlash for his offensive remarks about veteran actress Atiqa Odho on his popular game show Jeeto Pakistan.
The host of the ARY Digital program targeted her appearance and age while talking to fellow actor Humayun Saeed.
This public disrespect follows a lighthearted piece of advice that Odho gave during a recent television appearance on Geo.
During a segment on Hasna Mana Hai, Odho suggested that Mustafa should start acting with women his own age.
The veteran actress noted that he is starting to cross a certain age category just as Saeed has done.
Mustafa appeared quite offended by these comments and used his platform to mock the senior actress.
“I think she will only be happy if we play hero next to her.”
He then took a jab at her appearance and suggested that she should get several cosmetic surgeries.
“Atiqa Apa, only you are the heroine left for us then. You just get 3-4 good surgeries. We will star with you.”
His suggestion that she needs multiple cosmetic surgeries to work with him has sparked massive outrage across social media.
Many viewers were shocked to see Saeed laughing along with Mustafa while he vilified the veteran female star.
Actor Urwa Hocane stepped forward to defend Odho by criticising the arrogant behaviour displayed by the famous show host.
She stated that calling a senior colleague aapa in a sarcastic tone to age-shame her was extremely low.
Hocane noted that Odho used to star in lead roles opposite Saeed before the industry shifted its casting standards.
Atiqa Odho later posted a statement on social media asking people to let the heated issue blow over quietly.
“He’s reacted out of emotion.
“I truly feel sad that we, as public figures, can’t say anything lightheartedly without being attacked.”
She even apologised to Mustafa in case her original comments had hurt his feelings or his ego.
Mustafa eventually issued an apology on his show, but many fans felt that it lacked any real sincerity or accountability.
“Atiqa apa, you are our elder, we love you a lot. You are no doubt the most beautiful woman in Pakistan.
“God bless you, and I apologise. Take care of yourself.”
Fans were disappointed by Fahad Mustafa and pointed out that his statement focused on her looks again, rather than addressing the crass nature of his original disrespectful comments.
