"I’ve heard the story and it’s wonderful."
Aamir Khan has officially confirmed that a sequel to the iconic movie 3 Idiots is currently in development.
The actor confirmed this news during a detailed interview with the media outlet known as Amar Ujala recently.
Fans have been speculating about this highly anticipated cinematic follow-up for a very long period of time now.
This new project will see the celebrated filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani returning to the director’s chair.
The star confirmed the exciting news regarding the project by specifically and clearly stating to the media outlet:
“Raju is working on 3 Idiots 2 right now. I’ve heard the story and it’s wonderful.
“The script still needs some work, but the story itself is really good — unusual, with the same humour as the first film.
“It follows the characters from 3 Idiots, picking up 10 years later.”
The story is expected to progress the lives of the characters exactly one decade after the original events ended.
This upcoming sequel plans to reunite the original lead cast members, including R Madhavan and the actor Sharman Joshi.
Kareena Kapoor Khan is also expected to return to play her beloved character alongside the rest of the group.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra will once again serve as the producer for this massive and much-awaited Bollywood film production.
Screenwriter Abhijat Joshi has collaborated with Hirani to conceive what Aamir describes as a very beautiful and unusual story.
Aamir expressed his deep enthusiasm about stepping back into the role of the genius character known as Phunsukh Wangdu.
The actor expressed his deep joy about the ongoing collaboration with Rajkumar Hirani by stating:
“It’s a beautiful story conceived by Raju and Abhijat.
“I’m looking forward to it, and to playing Phunsukh Wangdu again.”
This confirmation comes after Aamir Khan made his big screen comeback with the latest release titled Sitaare Zameen Par.
The original 3 Idiots film, released in 2009, was loosely adapted from the popular novel Five Point Someone, written by Chetan Bhagat.
It followed the journey of three engineering students as they navigated the immense social pressures of the education system.
Many fans have been waiting for this announcement since the first film became a historic blockbuster across the world.
While the filming dates are not yet confirmed, the project is officially moving forward in the pre-production stage.
