Vaibhav proposed to Ahana in true romantic fashion while on holiday in Istanbul.
Ahana Deol, the youngest daughter of Bollywood legends, Dharmendra and Hema Malini, announced her engagement on June 23, 2013.
The private Iyengary style ceremony took place in front of family and close friends at the Deol residence in Juhu Scheme, Mumbai.
Ahana is the daughter of Dharmendra and his second wife, Tamil beauty and national sweetheart, Hema Malini. Sister to actress Esha Deol, the two girls are half-Punjabi and half-Tamil.
27-year-old Ahana is an Odissi dancer. Interestingly, she chose not to go down the family acting route and opted instead to train herself in Indian classical dance.
She has danced and performed both in India and abroad in various musical shows, including the famous Khajuraho Dance Festival. She is also a keen fashion designer.
Despite her varied interests, Ahana has also studied film-making and film-editing in both New York and from Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods Institute in Mumbai.
Her fiancé, Vaibhav Vora is a notable Punjabi businessman based in Delhi. Their love story is a sweet romance as the couple first met at elder sister, Esha Deol’s wedding to Bharat Takhtani last year.
Esha is a well-established actress in Bollywood, having followed in the footsteps of her parents. While she did take some time off from the film industry to get married, Esha has a few new films in the pipeline including Ghost Ghost Na Raha and Kaanch – The Broken Glass, both set for a 2013 release.
Esha’s husband Bharat is also a businessman and a good friend of Vaibhav’s. It is thought that Ahana and Vaibhav hit it off pretty quickly and soon fell for each other.
Both families were aware of this young blossoming love and seemed to approve. Many reports have also suggested that Vaibhav proposed to Ahana in true romantic fashion while on holiday in Istanbul.
Joining the happy couple at the home ceremony was Dharmendra, Hema, Esha, Bharat and Vaibhav’s parents.
Sunny and Ahana’s cousin Abhay Deol also made a presence, but there was no sign of Bobby. Ahana looked beautiful in an intricate and delicate sari designed by Sabyasachi from Chennai. It was a mixture of light turquoise and golden hues.
With the engagement done, wedding bells are not too far away. Reports have already indicated that the wedding will take place in Gurgaon in November later this year, but mother Hema has insisted that nothing has been confirmed:
“I am glad that Ahana has found someone as her life partner. It is a joyous moment for all of us. Vaibhav is a very nice boy. Now we are waiting for the right date to finalise the wedding date. Need your good wishes for Ahana and Vaibhav.”
Dharmendra looked all smiles at the ceremony, and seems ecstatic that his youngest daughter has found happiness.
While the actual wedding date is still to be decided, there is no doubt that 2013 has been a very big year for the Bollywood powerhouse, who only recently released his film Yamla Paagla Deewana 2 alongside his sons, Sunny and Bobby in June.
Meanwhile, Hema has taken unofficial retirement from the film industry, only making occasional special appearances on the big screen.
She now spends most of her time working with charities and recently expressed her desire for painting:
“I used to paint when I was a child and got a lot of awards when I was in school. If I start taking interest again, I can get back to painting. I think I will showcase with my paintings,” Hema says.
With both daughters now on the verge of marital bliss, Hema will definitely have a lot more time on her hands to pursue her new interest in art.
