A viral picture has led to speculation that a 3 Idiots sequel might be on the way.
The 2009 film with Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi received widespread critical acclaim and is considered to be a cult classic.
A picture showing the three stars at a press conference suggested that it was an announcement of the sequel.
The three stars were in matching red t-shirts and the background featured ‘idiots’.
Some fans were excited while others felt a sequel was not necessary.
Several cast members have reacted to the viral picture.
Among the first was Kareena Kapoor, who played Pia.
She posted a video and hinted that a 3 Idiots sequel will soon become reality as she claimed that it was a secret that was kept from her.
In the video, Kareena says: “I just got to know that when I was on holiday that these three were up to something.
“This press conference clip that is going around is from the secret that these three are keeping from us.
“Something is fishy and please don’t say that they are coming for Sharman’s movie production.
“I think they are coming together for a sequel. But only these three, without me?
“I don’t think even Boman knows about this. Calling Boman right now to check aakhir chal kya raha hai yaar. This smells like a sequel for sure.”
Like Kareena, fans were surprised.
One said: “Not without you, definitely not.”
Another wrote: “A sequel without you – absolutely impossible!”
Boman Irani, who played strict college director Dr Viru “Virus” Sahastrabuddhe, soon shared a video of his reaction and looked visibly upset that a sequel could be in the works without him.
In the video, he said: “Whatever you guys are up to is out already and the clip has become viral.
“How can you even think of a 3 Idiots sequel without Virus?
“It’s good that [Kareena] Kapoor called and informed me. I would never have known.”
“This is not fair, cooking up something this big and not even informing us. Is this your decency? Where is our friendship? I thought we were friends.”
Boman captioned the video:
“How can they make a 3 Idiots sequel without Virus? If Virus will not be the villain then who will be, and what will happen??”
He ended the video by adding that he was calling actor Jaaved Jaaferi, who had a cameo as the real Ranchhoddas Shyamaldas Chanchad.
After Jaaved Jaaferi continued to tease fans with the possibility of a sequel, Mona Singh gave her reaction.
Mona, who played Kareena’s on-screen sister, wondered why she was not told.
She went on to say that she was not informed by Aamir Khan even when they were filming Laal Singh Chaddha.
Saying “this is very sad”, Mona stated that “all is clearly not well”.

While there has been no official announcement, the reaction videos of each cast member suggest it could actually be promotional teasers of the sequel.
