A video of a Pakistani journalist has gone viral on social media wherein she can be seen slapping a boy.
The journalist claimed to be reporting on the recent holiday of Eid al-Adha, which was observed on July 9, 2022.
The journalist could be seen surrounded by people as she delivered a piece to the camera.
A young boy in a white shirt was seen standing next to her. While she was presenting, the boy lifted his arm and called for another person.
Though his voice was inaudible, the journalist was seen slapping him.
It is believed that the youngster said something uncalled for that caused the reporter to lose her composure.
Since being posted on Twitter, the video has garnered over 716,000 views and more than 500 retweets.
However, some social media users were confused after watching the video, since they could barely understand what made the journalist lose her cool.
But others were against her for being aggressive.
In response to the video, one Twitter user wrote: “Yeah, but who gave you the right to slap someone’s kid like that?”
Another added: “This is so random, what did he do to deserve a slap?”
Now, the Pakistani journalist, known as Maira Hashmi, has released a statement via Twitter addressing the matter.

Explaining the scenario on her official Twitter account, the journalist said that the boy was harassing the family she was interviewing.
She mentioned that she asked him to stop upsetting the family.
Her Twitter caption was written in Urdu: “This guy was harassing the family during the interview which made the family upset.
“I first lovingly explained that don’t do this, but despite the explanation, this guy didn’t understand and was making a lot of noise, after which I made sure that his action wouldn’t be tolerated by giving him an opportunity.”
The viral video has led to a chain of reactions from netizens. Some claim that Maira Hashmi’s reaction was wrong, others asserted that unprofessional.
One user wrote: “Exactly! She’s lying. She uploaded this video by herself for seeking attention.
“But she didn’t upload that part where the boy was teasing a family.”
Another user responded to the journalist’s statement and agreed with her response:
“Maira, I think you did the right thing. If his parents had done their job right, you would have been able to do yours without any interference. Boys like him need experiences like this.”
