Could Tinder Social be the Safer way to Date?

People are often told there’s safety in numbers. When it comes to dating, Tinder Social, puts that into practice.

The update is currently available in the UK, US, India, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Tinder Social allows users to create groups to chat and plan activities. Examples of this include a concert or a pub night.

Additionally if members of two groups swipe right, the two groups can connect. This includes chatting and potentially dating.

The main deterrents of dating apps and sites are due to safety concerns. It’s a huge fear that the person on the other end of the app is not who they appear to be.

Women are encouraged to meet in a public place, use their own transport, and keep in contact with a friend whilst meeting someone off the app.

Laura disputes the fear of meeting someone off Tinder:

“How do you know a person any better just because you’ve physically met them? I think Tinder is safer as it allows you to get to know a person first, rather than meeting them in a nightclub.”

Just over half of Tinder matches result in a meet up. Clearly users are taking sensible steps towards meeting a match.

Tinder Social may help as it creates a more organic way of meeting. Especially as at events or a nightclub people often meet whilst in groups of friends.

Having friends around can make meeting new people more comfortable and fun. Friends also provide a safety net, not just in terms of real danger, but with emotional pitfalls.

Meeting through Tinder Social also means a lower chance of being ‘catfished’. In which a person fakes their identity or appearance.

After all, it would be difficult to pretend to be multiple people on Tinder. As well as maintain a conversation with an entire group.

Of course, Tinder Social isn’t just good for organising group dates. The feature helps in meeting new friends or expanding the user’s social circle.

Due to the capacity to tag or describe certain activities, groups have the option to find like-minded individuals to attend an event with.

Therefore Tinder Social is not just a new update, it provides an alternative for the safety conscious. It also promotes Tinder as a fun way to meet new people, whether that be individually, or with your friends by your side.
