Three people, including a police officer, were shot dead, while another was critically injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire during Tarawih prayers in Pakistan.

The attack happened in Narowal inside a residence where worshippers had gathered.

The victims were identified as Imran Butt, Shahid Butt, and Special Branch police officer Zafar Iqbal.

A fourth individual, Shehbaz, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical care.

According to initial investigations, the shooting was linked to a long-standing dispute over a private bus stand.

The assailants managed to flee the scene before police arrived.

Authorities suspect that the attack was premeditated and are working to track down those responsible.

District Police Officer Malik Naveed, along with a heavy police contingent, reached the site to assess the situation.

The bodies of the victims were moved to a hospital for post-mortem examinations while forensic teams collected evidence.

Punjab Inspector General Dr Usman Anwar has taken notice of the attack and ordered a detailed report from the regional police chief.

He has directed law enforcement agencies to utilise all available resources to apprehend the suspects and ensure justice.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a theft was recently reported at a mosque in Rawalpindi’s Cantt area.

A thief stole a laptop and a bag containing valuable items.

CCTV footage captured the suspect in action, revealing his calculated approach.

The footage showed a well-dressed man in sunglasses, a shirt, and trousers scanning the area before discreetly picking up a shoulder bag.

The stolen bag contained a laptop, important documents, a USB, and a charger.

Before leaving, the suspect swapped his shoes with another worshipper’s pair.

The victim, Zia-ur-Rehman, discovered the theft after finishing his prayers and immediately filed a complaint with the Cantt police.

Authorities reviewed the surveillance footage and launched an investigation, eventually tracking down and arresting the suspect.

Both incidents have raised concerns over security, with citizens urging law enforcement to strengthen safety measures at places of worship.

A user said: “Can’t believe such crimes are happening in worship places. And in Ramadan!”

One remarked: “Only in Pakistan will you not be safe while praying Tarawih. What a shame.”

While police are actively pursuing the suspects in the Narowal shooting, the Rawalpindi theft case has highlighted the need for increased security in mosques.
