Almighty Motion Picture has acquired the rights of the book ‘The Vijay Mallya Story’ and it will be turned into a mega web series.

Actor and producer Prabhleen Kaur took to Twitter to make the announcement.

She wrote: “We Almighty Motion Picture are delighted to announce the acquisition of rights of ‘The Vijay Mallya Story’ written by renowned author @Gprakash1 & published by @PenguinIndia.”

Kaur has acquired the rights of the life and times of the book ‘The Vijay Mallya Story’ by well-known author K Giriprakash in association with PZ Pictures.

The book, which is published by Penguin India, follows the journey of the flamboyant, fugitive entrepreneur Vijay Mallya and it chronicles his journey from his birth until he left for the UK.

Mallya had been accused of fraud and money laundering in India, however, he ended up fleeing to the UK where he was later arrested.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it his aim to bring Mallya back to India in order to pay his outstanding debt of Rs. 9,000 Crore.

Since then, he has been fighting legal battles in the UK which has seen him claim that he no longer has any assets to pay the debt and is living off his wife’s earnings.

Court cases have also seen his personal allowance reduced by £4,000, meaning that he can access only £22,500 per month.

In July 2020, it was reported that Mallya had offered a settlement package of Rs. 13,960 Crore as against a total principal amount of Rs. 9,000 Crore to the consortium of Indian bankers pursuing litigation against him. This settlement was accepted by the bankers.

Mallya remains the subject of an extradition effort by the Indian Government to return him from the UK to face charges of financial crimes in India.

His triumphs and travails are documented in ‘The Vijay Mallya Story’, which has been described as a rollercoaster ride.

Readers also see his acquisitions such as his previous ownership of cricket team, Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The script for the web series adaptation is in its final stages and a prominent Bollywood actor has been cast to play the role of the businessman.

The filming of the series is set to start in September 2020.

Almighty Motion Pictures had announced its arrival at the entertainment horizon with their maiden web series Mastram on MX Player.
