"Karan has really applied himself."
Rajkumar Santoshi’s upcoming film Lahore 1947 will feature Sunny Deol’s son Karan Deol in a pivotal role.
The news was officially confirmed by Aamir Khan who is producing the movie.
Karan will play a character named Javed.
In a statement, Aamir said: “I am so happy that Karan Deol has tested so well for the extremely critical role of Javed.
“His natural innocence, his sincerity, and his honesty bring a lot to the table.
“Karan has really applied himself, worked hard, done workshops with ADISHAKTI, rehearsals with Raj, and is giving it his all.
“Javed is a great part, a very challenging part, and I am sure that with Raj Santoshi to direct him, Karan will nail it.”
Lahore 1947 will also star Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta and Shabana Azmi.
The film marks the first professional collaboration between Sunny and Aamir after plans for them to appear together in Yash Chopra’s Darr (1993) fell through.
Aamir was due to play the anti-hero Rahul Mehra in Darr while Sunny essayed the commanding officer Sunil Malhotra.
In an interview, when asked why Aamir would no longer appear in the film, he explained:
“When I do a film that has more than one hero, I request the director to make us sit together and narrate the story,
“So we are satisfied with our roles and no problems will occur going forward.
“For example, when Andaz Apna Apna (1994) was being made, Rajkumar Santoshi narrated the script to me and Salman Khan together.
“In this case, that was not possible. Yash Ji did not feel that he should give a joint narration.
“So on that basis, I was removed from the project.”
The part of Rahul was ultimately portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan.
Lahore 1947 was announced in October 2023.
Via the Aamir Khan Productions X account, Aamir wrote:
“I, and the entire team at AKP, are most excited and happy to announce our next, starring Sunny Deol, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, titled Lahore 1947.
“We look forward to collaborating with the immensely talented Sunny, and one of my favourite directors Raj Santoshi.”

It has also been confirmed that lyricist Javed Akhtar and music composer AR Rahman are part of the film’s production.
Karan Deol made his film debut with Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas (2019). Directed by his father Sunny, it was a box office failure.
Lahore 1947 marks the first time he will share screen space with his father. Filming is currently underway.
