The teaser of the upcoming period film, Batwara 1947, has been released and it tells a story of courage and division.
The film is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and is produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit.
Since the movie’s announcement, the film has garnered widespread anticipation as it marks the first collaboration between Sunny and Aamir.
Batwara 1947 also stars Shabana Azmi, Preity G Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, and Abhimanyu Singh.
It is based on the play by Asghar Wahajat, Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai.
The teaser begins with an aerial shot over a map of India.
A voiceover says: “India. After great struggle and sacrifice, she finally won her freedom from centuries of slavery.
“But tragically, the country was divided in two.
“In the name of religion, humanity was being butchered.”
The video then includes iconography of people killing each other and trains being attacked.
Another narrator says: “Streets will be flooded with blood!”
We then see Shabana Azmi’s character, looking terrified.
Sunny Deol then runs down a platform, emerging from a cloud of smoke.
The teaser also shows fleeting glimpses of the characters played by Preity, Karan, and Ali.
It concludes with a character asking Sunny: “Want to fight?”
In his inimitable style, Sunny replies: “I don’t intend to, but I wouldn’t mind it either.”
The teaser declares: “In times of hatred and fear, he chose courage.”

Batwara 1947 was initially titled, Lahore 1947. However, this was changed to avoid controversy.
The film’s music is composed by AR Rahman, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
It is scheduled to be released on August 14, 2026.
Along with this film, Sunny Deol will soon be seen in Ikka, with Akshaye Khanna. It is set to premiere on Netflix on July 10, 2026.
He also will be seen in Gabru, and as Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana saga.
Batwara 1947 also marks Preity G Zinta’s comeback to Bollywood after Bhaiaji Superhit (2018).
