The film RRR rolls on with two back-to-back awards for director SS Rajamouli and actor Ram Charan.

Rajamouli won the prestigious award ‘Best Director’ at the New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC) Awards.

The list of directors competing against Rajamouli was Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg, Darren Aronofsky, Sarah Polley, and Gina Prince-Blythewood.

Ram Charan was honoured for achievement in Entertainment at NDTV’s True Legend on December 2, 2022.

Ram Charan played the lead role in RRR, alongside Jr NTR.

The film was released across the globe in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam simultaneously.

It was also released in Japan as well as the US and has been submitted for consideration in various categories for the Oscars 2023.

Meanwhile, after Ram Charan’s win at NDTV’s True Legend, his father and veteran actor Chiranjeevi congratulated him on Twitter.

He wrote: “Nanna, Absolutely thrilled for you and proud, on winning the True Legend – #FutureOfYoungIndia Award #NDTV Bravo!

“Way to go, dearest, Ram Charan – Appa and Amma.”

At True Legend, Ram Charan recalled a hilarious story of how his father had been present when SS Rajamouli, who directed Ram Charan in the 2009 film Magadheera, had narrated the film to him.

He said his father was so involved and excited about the narration that Rajamouli was forced to clarify with these words: “Sir, not you, your son.”

Almost two months after RRR’s theatrical release, it began streaming on Netflix.

According to the OTT giant, RRR became “the most popular Indian film on Netflix around the world” in June 2022.

The film is set in the 1920s. It is a fictitious story based on two legendary freedom fighters – Alluri Seetharamaraju and Komaram Bheem.

The cast included Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Olivia Morris, Samuthirakani, Alison Doody, and Ray Stevenson, among others.

The film opened to largely positive reviews from critics and had an overwhelming response from the audience, both in India and across the globe.

Meanwhile, in a conversation at the 53rd IFFI in Goa, Vijayendra Prasad, screenwriter of RRR, confessed that he was disappointed when RRR was not chosen for India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the 95th Academy Awards.

He said: “Yes, I was disappointed, but unfortunately, I can’t express my disappointment…”

The ace writer is however hopeful.

He further said: “I am hopeful to get at least a couple of nominations at the Oscars.”

Recently, director SS Rajamouli confirmed the plans of making RRR 2.

When asked about the same, Vijayendra Prasad replied:

“Yes, we are thinking of making RRR 2. My son wants me to write a sequel.”

“It will be again a fiction story with the same characters played by the two (Jr. NTR and Ram Charan).”

Prasad further said that his son SS Rajamouli’s dream to make Mahabharata will take some time.

He added: “Mahabharata will take some time, whereas I have written a draft of Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2.”
