"Our sincere thanks to all the fans"

RRR has just premiered in cinemas, with reports online that the OTT streaming rights have been acquired by both Netflix and ZEE5.

The producers that post the theatrical release of RRR, the film’s Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada versions will be made available on ZEE5.

Netflix will stream the Hindi, Portuguese, Korean, Turkish and Spanish versions of RRR.

While the Zee Network holds the satellite rights of the Hindi version of RRR, the Star India network owns the television rights of the film’s Telugu Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada versions.

RRR is a fictional story based on the struggles of Telugu tribal leaders Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem.

While Ram Charan is seen in the role of Sitarama, Jr NTR essays Komaram.

Rajamouli also roped in Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn to play pivotal roles in the film.

RRR was initially scheduled to premiere on July 30, 2020, before it was delayed because of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic until October 13 and then to January 7, 2022.

In mid-December, a new wave of rumours began circulating on social media that the film could be delayed again.

It was confirmed on January 1, 2022, that RRR had been delayed ‘indefinitely’ due to the surge of Omicron cases domestically.

Announcing the delay on social media, the official RRR Twitter page would share a statement from the production team.

The post stated: “Keeping the best interests of all the involved parties in mind, we are forced to postpone our film.

“Our sincere thanks to all the fans and audience for their unconditional love.

“Inspite our relentless efforts, some situations are beyond our control.

“As many Indian states are closing theatres, we are left with no choice but to ask you to hold on to your excitement.

“We promised to bring back The Glory of Indian Cinema, and at the right time, we will.”

At a launch event in December 2021, producer Jayantilal Gada said that the film would premiere for streaming “75 to 90 days after its theatrical release”.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Jayantilal said: “We are confident that people would want to experience this in cinema halls for a long time.

“We won’t opt for a 30-day premiere.”

The Telugu-language period action drama film is produced by D. V. V. Danayya of DVV Entertainments.

RRR was released in cinemas on March 24, 2022.
