"No one tells me how to make a film."

SS Rajamouli opened up about the possibility of working on a Hollywood film.

The filmmaker has been enjoying international success, with RRR bagging a Golden Globe Award for ‘Best Original Song’.

SS Rajamouli has been attending screenings for RRR in the United States and has been promoting the film ahead of the upcoming Oscars.

Speaking about the film’s reception in the West, Rajamouli said:

“I was surprised at the film’s reception in the West.

“A good story is a good story for everyone, but I didn’t think I could make films for Western sensibilities. I never believed myself.

“So when it came out on Netflix and critics started giving out good reviews, I was really, really surprised.”

On whether he would make a Hollywood film, Rajamouli said:

“I think it’s the dream of every filmmaker across the world to make a film in Hollywood. I am no different.

“I have been making films in a certain way which is quite different from how films are made here (in the US). I’m open to experimentation.”

But Rajamouli noted that if he were to make a film in the West, he would probably have to collaborate with someone else.

“Back in India, I am the dictator. No one tells me how to make a film.

“But collaborations would come handy here as it would enable me to see the American way of doing things while not letting go of the things I have learnt so far.”

He added that he has always had an interest in the Prince of Persia video game franchise, and would be interested in directing a film adaptation.

RRR lead stars Jr NTR and Ram Charan also expressed an interest in working in Hollywood, with the latter saying he has meetings lined up in February 2023.

Jr NTR previously said the international recognition RRR has received is an award in itself.

He said: “The West accepting us, America, the Mecca of filmmaking, here we are at the Globes… what else can an actor ask for, what else can I ask for being a part of RRR. I am truly honoured.

“I was at the TCL yesterday, it was on my bucket list and oh my god, that just blew my mind.

“That reaction was nothing less than the reaction back home in theatres. I just loved it.

“The very essence of the audience accepting RRR is in itself a very big award.”
