"The overdose caused Sagar to collapse."
Sapna Singh staged a protest in Bareilly on December 10, 2024, following the tragic and suspicious death of her 14-year-old son.
Sagar Gangwar’s body was discovered under alarming circumstances.
After days of investigation, police arrested his two adult friends, Anuj and Sunny, in connection with his death.
Sagar, a Class 8 student, had been staying with his maternal uncle, Om Prakash, in Bareilly’s Anand Vihar Colony.
His body was found near Adalakhia village, located in the Izzatnagar police station area, on the morning of December 8, 2024.
The authorities initially treated the case as an accidental death.
They later began investigating the case after Sagar was reported missing by his uncle on December 7.
CCTV footage from the area eventually led to the identification of the suspects, Anuj and Sunny. In the footage, the accused were seen dragging Sagar’s body toward a field.
The post-mortem report did not provide a definitive cause of death.
However, it did suggest possible poisoning or a drug overdose.
According to Circle Officer Ashutosh Shivam, the viscera samples have been preserved for further analysis to determine the exact cause.
During questioning, Anuj and Sunny admitted to taking drugs and alcohol with Sagar, which allegedly caused an overdose, leading to the teenager collapsing.
They claimed that in a state of panic, they dumped his body in a remote area.
Bhuta Police Station Inspector Sunil Kumar said:
“Anuj and Sunny confessed during questioning that they had consumed drugs and alcohol with Sagar.
“The overdose caused Sagar to collapse.
“Panicking, they dragged his body to a field and left him there.”
While it is claimed that Sagar died of an overdose, Sapna Singh alleged that her son was murdered.
In an Instagram Story, the Crime Patrol actress claimed her son’s legs were broken, his throat slit and he was shot.
She claimed that the culprits lured Sagar out of his home on the pretext of playing cricket. She described her family’s devastation and demanded justice.
The arrest of Anuj and Sunny came after protests erupted in Sagar’s village.
Residents blocked roads demanding further investigation and a second post-mortem.
Sapna Singh, who had been in Mumbai, returned to Bareilly upon learning of her son’s death.
Upon seeing his body, she was overcome with grief and called for justice.
Her emotional protest, which lasted for 90 minutes, ended only after police assured her that appropriate action would be taken.
Following the protests, the police reclassified the case as murder and filed a fresh FIR at the Bhuta police station.
