"No amount of consoling and condolences can replace the everlasting grief"
The daughter of Tamil music composer Vijay Antony was discovered dead at her home in Chennai’s Teynampet.
Sixteen-year-old Meera was found in her room at around 3 am on September 19, 2023.
It was reported that Vijay rushed her to a hospital in Mylapore but doctors declared Meera dead on arrival.
Police officers arrived at the hospital and sent Meera’s body to the Omandurar government hospital for a post-mortem.
A case was registered and while police are conducting a further inquiry into the incident, officers suspect the teenager took her own life.
A senior police officer said:
“The child was rushed to a private hospital in Mylapore early this morning. Doctors declared her brought dead.
“It appears the child killed herself.”
Another officer added: “Investigation is underway and we can’t say anything now.”
Meera was a Class 12 student at a private school in Chennai.
Meera was Vijay’s eldest daughter.
On hearing the tragic news, several Tamil actors and directors sent messages of condolences.
Director Venkat Prabhu said:
“Woke up to this shocking news! Deepest condolences Vijay Antony Saar and family. RIP Meera.”
Veteran actor R Sarath Kumar said that the news of the “untimely and unfortunate” demise of Meera is “shocking beyond imagination”.
He added: “No amount of consoling and condolences can replace the everlasting grief of Vijay Antony and Fatima.”
Gautham Karthik wrote: “My deepest condolences to brother Vijay Antony and his family… Truly shocking to hear this.
“I pray that God gives your family strength during this time. I’m so sorry for your loss. May she rest in peace.”
Lokesh Kanagaraj, director of Vijay’s upcoming project Leo, said:
“Heartbroken to hear the news about your loss Vijay Antony brother.
“More strength to you and your family to get through this loss.”
The film’s production company Seven Screen Studio also said they will postpone the poster release as a mark of respect.
Meera’s death also resulted in a post from her mother resurfacing.
In March 2023, Fatima shared a photo of Meera after she became the cultural secretary at Sacred Heart School in Chennai.
The post read: “The force behind my strength, the consolations to my tears, the reason for my stress (Naughtiness super loaded) my Thangakatti-chellakutty. Meera Vijay Antony, Congrats Baby.”
Vijay Antony predominantly works in Tamil cinema.
After working as a composer for several years, he ventured into acting.
Some of his best-known films include Salim and Pichaikkaran.
He and his wife Fatima are also parents to a girl named Lara.
