Comedian Samay Raina did not hold back when Alia Bhatt and Sharvari appeared on India’s Got Latent Season 2 premiere.
Instead of rolling out the traditional red carpet for the Bollywood star, he welcomed her with a sharp and witty roast.
The audience erupted in laughter as Samay delivered punchlines that highlighted the contrast between her Cannes presence and the show.
Introducing Alia, 33, Samay jokingly called her the biggest guest ever to appear on Latent in its history.
“She is the biggest guest we have had till now in Latent. Highest point of Latent, lowest point of her career.”
The remark immediately became one of the standout moments from the episode that viewers are still discussing online.
The episode marked Alia and Sharvari’s appearance on the show as part of promotions for their upcoming film Alpha.
Staying true to his trademark comedic style, Samay continued to tease the actor throughout the entire conversation seamlessly.
At one point, he joked: “Feeling nervous sitting next to you, big fan of your… husband.”
The audience responded warmly to the self-deprecating humour and the playful banter between the comedian and the actress.
The comedian also referenced Alia’s global recognition and her National Award-winning career throughout the episode.
He humorously questioned her decision to appear on the show given her extraordinary level of professional achievement.
“Why the f**k are you here? Why did you come to Latent? Kahan Cannes, kahan Latent. But yahan cameras aap pe hain.”
The quote translates to questioning what a massive gap existed between Cannes and Latent as venues.
But he added that at least on his show, the cameras were actually focused directly on her presence.
His comment took a direct and unfiltered dig at the controversy surrounding Alia’s appearance at Cannes Film Festival 2026.
Another joke that drew significant reaction came when Samay asked about her favourite state during the conversation.
As Alia paused to think of an answer, Samay quickly jumped in with a sharp interjection:
“I have asked about the state, not the president.”
The joke was a playful reference to one of Alia’s most viral moments from Koffee With Karan years earlier.
On that show, she had famously struggled to answer a question about India’s President accurately and confidently.
The banter between Samay and Alia did not stop as the conversation continued throughout the episode.
When Alia admitted that she was beginning to regret coming on the show, Samay was ready immediately.
He joked: “I regretted it too after watching Jigra.”
The remark appeared to catch Alia off guard, while Sharvari couldn’t stop laughing at the sharp observation.
