"My only objective was to make people laugh"
Samay Raina has removed all of the videos of India’s Got Latent from YouTube after a clip from the latest episode sparked outrage.
The comedian addressed the situation on social media, calling the controversy “too much for me to handle”.
He also assured that he would cooperate with authorities.
In a statement, Samay said: “Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle.
“I have removed all India’s Got Latent videos from my channel.
“My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you.”
Despite addressing the matter, internet users remained unhappy with Samay because he did not explicitly apologise.
One person asked: “Why does this sound fishy?”
Another pointed out: “You are yet to apologise. So long post but you didn’t use the word ‘sorry’, ‘regret’ etc.”
A user wrote: “Where’s the apology?”
The controversy arose after a clip featuring an interaction between YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia and a contestant went viral.
Ranveer had asked the contestant:
“Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day or join them to end it once and for all?”
He also asked another contestant to perform oral sex on him in exchange for Rs. 2 Crore (£184,000).
His comments were deemed offensive and crude, drawing widespread backlash on social media.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his disapproval of the content, further escalating the matter.
In the wake of the incident, multiple FIRs were registered against those involved in the show.
Apart from Samay Raina, complaints were filed against guest judge Ranveer Allahbadia, comedians Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and content creator Apoorva Mukhija.
All were seen laughing at the remarks.
Ranveer previously shared an apology video, saying:
“My comment wasn’t just inappropriate, it was also not funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry.
“Many of you asked if this is how I wish to use my platform, obviously! This is not how I wish to use it.
“I am not going to give any context or justification or reasoning behind whatever happened, I am just here for this apology.”
He also asked for forgiveness.
The controversy has also had a significant impact on Samay’s live performances.
His upcoming US tour remains uncertain, while all his shows in Gujarat have been cancelled.
According to BookMyShow, performances in Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Surat scheduled for April 17, 18, 19, and 20 are no longer available for booking.
