“Do you realise the seriousness of what you have said?"
Indian actress Rhea Chakraborty has shared a screenshot of a horrific message she received online in which she was threatened with rape and murder.
Rhea, who was a VJ on MTV India made her Bollywood debut in the 2013 film Mere Dad Ki Maruti.
Since then, Rhea has gone on to feature in several films. These include Bank Chor (2017), Jalebi (2018) and Sonali Cable (2014) just to name a few.
The actress was rumoured to be the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend.
On Thursday, 16 July 2020, Rhea took to her Instagram account where she uploaded the screenshot of the message.
The message was sent from “mannu_raaut” on Instagram. It read:
“I make sure u will b raped n murdered! U b**** commit suicide otherwise I will send people to kill you sooner or later!”
Rhea shared the screenshot of the message with a caption expressing her shock and anger. She wrote:
“I was called a gold digger .. I kept quiet. I was called a murderer … I kept quiet. I was slut shamed … I kept quiet.
“But how does my silence give you the right to tell me that you will get me RAPED and MURDERED if I don’t commit suicide @mannu_raaut?
“Do you realise the seriousness of what you have said? These are crimes and by law no one, I repeat NO ONE should be subjected to this kind of toxicity and harassment.
“I request @cyber_crime_helpline @cybercrimeindia to please take necessary action. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.”

Rhea Chakraborty has been at the centre of Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide case. The actor tragically took his own life on 14 June 2020 at his Bandra residence.
Since then, fingers have been pointed at possible suspects who could have possibly been involved in Sushant’s demise.
Names like Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, Salman Khan and his rumoured girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty have been singled out.
Recently, Alia Bhatt’s sister Shaheen Bhatt shared several screenshots of the online abuse she and Alia had been receiving.
Similarly, the sisters were threatened with rape and murder from strangers.
In retaliation, Shaheen stated that she would be taking legal action against those behind the hateful messages.
This step was supported by her mother Soni Razdan. She also took to Instagram to condemn the popular social media site for not doing enough to protect her daughters against such harassers.
Currently, Rhea Chakraborty has appealed to the police for help. We wait to see whether matters are resolved.
