"Their movies are propaganda"
Randeep Hooda sparked a debate as he questioned the portrayal of historical events in American cinema, particularly in the Oscar-winning movie Oppenheimer.
The actor suggested that American films often serve as vehicles for propaganda, portraying Americans as heroes while downplaying or ignoring the darker aspects of history.
In an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia, Randeep expressed scepticism about the acclaim for Oppenheimer.
The film centres around J. Robert Oppenheimer’s involvement in creating the first atomic bomb.
Randeep said: “America made Oppenheimer. That man built the atomic bomb.
“It was such a painful incident in Japan, civilians in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, detonated the bomb at night.
“America is the good guy. What did they do in Vietnam?
“Their movies are propaganda, their movies tell the entire world that ‘we are the best army, we are the good guys. Japanese, Germans are bad’.
“And history also has the same thing, because they have written history.
“But this is not true. They even say that aliens always come to America.
“Aliens can only spot America. They made pictures on their heroes like Oppenheimer, and Truman and the world watches them.
“We are always trying to demean our heroes because of political agenda.”
He questioned the accuracy of American historical narratives, suggesting that they often distort or omit crucial details to fit a particular agenda.
Despite its critical acclaim and commercial success, Oppenheimer has faced scrutiny for its portrayal of the complex historical character and the events surrounding the development of the atomic bomb.
Randeep Hooda’s comments add to the ongoing debate surrounding the film’s historical accuracy and its depiction of morally ambiguous subjects.
In contrast to his criticisms of American cinema, Randeep Hooda highlighted his own film, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.
The film explores the life of freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and his contributions to India’s independence struggle.
The film, directed by Randeep, has garnered attention for its portrayal of Savarkar’s role in history and has received positive reviews for its performances.
Swatantrya Veer Savarkar was released on March 22, 2024.
It features Randeep in the lead role alongside Ankita Lokhande.
The film has been praised for its portrayal of the freedom fighter’s convictions and struggles.
While some have criticised the film for alleged historical inaccuracies and biases, Randeep maintained that it offers a more nuanced perspective on Savarkar’s life and legacy.
