"degenerate and vulgar, casteist and sexist"

Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda is facing major flack for a joke he made in a nine-year-old video.

Hooda found himself at the centre of a social media storm after an old video of him resurfaced on Tuesday, May 25, 2021.

The video is from an event organised by a media house in 2012.

In the video, Hooda makes a joke featuring derogatory comments against Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati.

Mayawati is also a member of the Dalit caste.

The 43-second video begins with the Radhe actor saying:

“I think I will tell a very dirty joke. This is sex position for God sake.”

He then sets the scene of Mayawati walking down a street with two boys, aged four and eight.

Hooda continued to say that a stranger asks if the boys are twins, and Mayawati clarifies the age gap. The man then responds with:

“I can’t believe someone has been there twice.”

The audience laughs, and Hooda laughs along with them.

Hooda’s joke is being branded as casteist and sexist and, even nine years later, netizens are not amused.

Social media users took to their accounts to slam Randeep Hooda’s comments against the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

One Twitter user shared the video of Randeep Hooda, and expressed her fury at his remarks.

She said:

“If this does not explain how casteist and sexist this society is, especially towards Dalit women, I don’t know what will.

“The ‘joke’, the audacity, the crowd. Randeep Hooda, top Bollywood actor talking about a Dalit woman, who has been the voice of the oppressed.”

CPI-ML Politburo leader Kavita Krishnan also shared the video, saying:

“Not a ‘joke’ @RandeepHooda. You notice no one makes ‘jokes’ saying a male politician is too ugly to f***?”

“You are doing what casteist, misogynist, insecure turds do when confronted with women whose strength they fear: attack the woman as unattractive.”

Another user commented:

“What is more shocking is the utter confidence with which Randeep Hooda cracks this degenerate and vulgar, casteist and sexist joke about Mayawati, one of the tallest leaders of the country.”

Hundreds of netizens expressed their anger at Randeep Hooda’s comments.

Some also pointed out that the actor has bragged about his upper-caste status in the past.

However, many are now demanding an apology from Hooda. One user tweeted:

“He wasn’t a teenager when he cracked it.

“The only acceptable way to move forward is an unconditional apology without any explanation and gaslighting.

“Anything less is a waste of time.”

Randeep Hooda is not the only actor to come under fire for casteist comments recently.

Actors Yuvika Chaudhary and Munmun Dutta also received criticism for using casteist slurs in their videos.

Dutta was booked by police as a result.
