the course is designed to fit around a full-time job.
Aston University’s Green Advantage is a sustainability short course.
It is designed for business leaders, managers and professionals who want to consider the implications of climate and environmental challenges for their business or workplace alongside maintaining business performance and profitability.
Sustainability is important but it can be confusing and business leaders can feel like they are expected to play a major role without having the guidance to help them.
The Green Advantage course will provide the necessary information and skillset for business leaders to understand environmental sustainability in a business context.
It will also highlight the strategies and potential actions that you need to be taking to meet changing customer and staff preferences, regulatory, procurement or supply chain requirements, or investor expectations.

The Green Advantage course is delivered by Aston Centre for Growth, supported by The Energy & Bioproducts Research Institute (EBRI) and the Centre for Circular Economy and Advanced Sustainability at Aston University.
Lasting approximately 12 weeks, the course is designed to fit around a full-time job.
It comprises a welcome session, five workshops and four hours of one-to-one coaching from a business sustainability expert.
The course has already delivered seven successful cohorts since October 2022.
It has seen participation from top companies such as Mars UK, Handelsbanken, National Grid, Shrewsbury Town Council, Mills & Reeve and Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
Numerous successful small businesses from across the West Midlands have also participated in the course.

Supported by interactive workshops, like-minded peers and a one-to-one business coach you will:
- Learn about environmental sustainability from leading Aston academics and industry experts.
- Hear examples of sustainability strategies being used by businesses today.
- Build a bespoke Sustainability Road Map for your business or career.
Course participants will also be informed of opportunities provided by the West Midlands Combined Authority and Sustainability West Midlands to showcase their net zero activities, share best practices and promote their commitment to accountability around Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agendas.
To be eligible for Green Advantage, you must be a British national or resident of the UK for the past three years.
Eligible participants must also be aged 19 and living and/or working in one of three Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) areas of The Black Country, Greater Birmingham and Solihull, or Coventry.
Participants have to be a decision-maker from any business sector who have some responsibilities linked to the sustainability agenda.
However, participants must not be enrolled on another Government-funded programme.
As part of the Government’s Skills Bootcamps, Green Advantage is funded by the Government Department for Education via the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA).
A contribution has to be made to the course’s cost and the amount is based on the size of your business.
