Moments later, officers heard a commotion
A Pakistani woman died after falling from her apartment in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) during a drug raid by the police.
The incident occurred in the Muslim Commercial Area within the jurisdiction of the Darakhshan police station.
According to law enforcement officials, 35-year-old Afsheen, was inside her fourth-floor flat when police arrived to arrest her.
She was reportedly involved in drug trafficking, a fact disclosed by a previously arrested suspect, Obaid.
Authorities stated that despite repeated knocks, Afsheen refused to open the door.
Moments later, officers heard a commotion and discovered she had fallen from the building.
She suffered critical injuries and was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where she died during treatment.
SHO Taj confirmed that Afsheen, who came from a well-to-do family, was not only a drug addict but also involved in the sale of narcotics.
She had been living alone after separating from her husband, with whom she had one daughter.
Police recovered various items, including liquor bottles, from her apartment.
The investigation initially suggested that Afsheen had jumped to avoid arrest.
However, it was later clarified that she had been holding onto a water pipe after stepping out onto her balcony.
The pipe snapped, leading to her fatal fall. Officials now believe her death was accidental rather than an escape attempt or suicide.
Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed stated that Afsheen’s father refused to allow a post-mortem examination.
Additionally, the family took her body away without completing any legal formalities.
Authorities have emphasised that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of her involvement in drug trafficking.
Meanwhile, law enforcement has reiterated its commitment to cracking down on narcotics operations in the city.
The incident has sparked discussions on police raid tactics and the broader challenges Pakistani authorities face in tackling organised drug networks.
This case comes in the wake of another high-profile drug-related scandal involving Sahir Hasan, the son of veteran actor Sajid Hasan.
Sahir was arrested on drug possession charges after police recovered narcotics worth Rs 50 million from him.
Sahir, who has worked as a model and actor, is accused of supplying drugs to Armaghan, the prime suspect in the Mustafa Amir murder case.
Investigators claim he had been involved in drug distribution for at least two years.
According to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Sahir confessed that both Mustafa Amir and his alleged murderer, Armaghan, were regular buyers.
