"It's getting out of hand; they are beating everyone"

A police crackdown unfolded at Punjab Group of Colleges (PGC) campus 10 in Lahore following allegations that a female student was raped.

The situation escalated into widespread protests, leading to clashes between students and security personnel that resulted in multiple injuries.

In response to the uproar, authorities claimed they arrested a security guard believed to be involved in the alleged assault.

This decision came after the incident gained considerable attention on social media, prompting an immediate police response.

DIG Operations Faisal Kamran addressed the media, stating that the police have taken swift action.

Despite the news of the arrest, many online sources claim that the security guard is still at large.

One social media post cautioned followers, saying:

“Do not believe this until you see a video of the guard behind bars. This is fake news.”

In light of the circumstances, DIG Kamran indicated that Lahore police are actively seeking the rape victim and her family.

Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the college to gather more information about the incident.

Amid the unrest, students have staged protests demanding accountability from the college principal, resulting in clashes that left several individuals injured.

Videos from the scene showed students breaking through the college gates.

Social media influencer Nayab Husnain, who was at the protests, cautioned:

“Girls! Don’t go to the protest anymore!

“It’s getting out of hand; they are beating everyone, and it’s getting crazy out here.

“The authorities using force against these students is utterly shameful.”

Despite the turmoil, officials have reassured the public that no student’s life is in danger, countering various rumours circulating on social media.

PGC has issued a statement, calling the accusations “false claims”.

However, a video has emerged featuring Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat.

In the video, he claimed that the college principal deleted CCTV footage to cover up the incident.

PGC’s has also been suspended until further notice.

In another viral video, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) is seen urging students to return to the college, warning:

“The gates are open. You all must go inside; what if another ‘incident’ occurs?”

Reports also indicate that authorities have been using tear gas against the protesting students.

The principal has faced heavy criticism, particularly after a voicenote of hers surfaced online.

She could be heard harshly instructing students to delete their posts about the incident.

Several students have reported that college staff, including male teachers and guards, have resorted to violence against them.

This includes allegations of male staff harassing girls and locking students in classrooms.

These viral accounts have further fuelled the outrage and demands for accountability.
