"A despicable and dangerous plan was devised."
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz firmly dismissed claims surrounding the PGC rape incident involving a student, labelling the allegations as fabricated.
During a press conference in Lahore, she detailed the findings of an investigation conducted by a committee she chaired.
The controversy began when it was reported that a student was raped.
Maryam shared that the initial report said the incident took place on October 10, 2024.
However, she claimed that the student had been hospitalised since October 2 due to a severe fall that had left her injured.
Maryam stated: “She was wrongly portrayed as a rape victim.”
In her address, Maryam revealed that she spoke with the girl’s mother, who expressed deep distress over the situation.
The mother stated her desire to see those responsible for fabricating the story exposed and punished.
Maryam Nawaz criticised the campaign that emerged on social media, asserting that false accusations led to unrest without any factual basis.
She claimed: “A despicable and dangerous plan was devised.”
Maryam highlighted how the timing of the allegations coincided with the SCO summit when foreign heads of state were present in Pakistan.
She pointed fingers at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, describing it as a “terrorist organisation” that orchestrated the conspiracy.
According to her, the party manipulated students and used journalists to spread misinformation.
She highlighted discrepancies in eyewitness accounts, particularly regarding a girl who claimed to have heard noises and called for help.
Maryam said that emergency services were not contacted on the day of the alleged incident.
She claimed that there was no evidence of locked rooms either.
Maryam also disclosed that the accused guard was on leave at the time and had been arrested in Sargodha for investigation.
Despite the official dismissal of the claims, speculation persists.
Critics allege that the government and the college administration are attempting to cover up the rape incident.
They are suggesting that familial connections to Maryam Nawaz may be involved.
Adding to the controversy, a voice note supposedly from a close friend of the alleged victim surfaced.
The girl asserted that the hospital reports being referenced actually belonged to another girl who had fallen at home.
This friend claimed that an ambulance was called for the alleged victim at the college.
Many students maintain that they heard screams during the incident, and there are accusations that CCTV footage was destroyed to conceal evidence.
Maryam Nawaz’s intervention in the matter has only intensified the scrutiny and debate surrounding the case.
It has left many questioning the integrity of the investigation of the PGC rape case and the motives behind it.
