“This is the situation in our country."

A Punjab policeman, SHO Shafiq Ahmed, was caught on camera physically assaulting an elderly man in Multan, triggering outrage.

The incident occurred when the elderly motorcyclist unknowingly entered a VIP route designated for the security of a cricket team.

Footage showed the officer pulling the man off his slow-moving bike.

He proceeded to grab the man and dragged him across the road while hurling inappropriate words.

The video quickly went viral, leading to intense criticism on social media.

Users condemned the officer’s excessive force, questioning the lack of professionalism and respect.

The incident has reignited debates over police brutality.

Many argued that police personnel in Pakistan are not adequately trained in handling civilians with dignity and restraint.

A user said: “Instead of making people follow the law, these people are trying to make them criminals, especially Punjab police.”

Another commented: “This is the situation in our country. Those who are for our protection treat the people like this.”

One questioned: “We are waiting for changing the system. But who is going to fix the people’s behaviour?”

Another remarked: “Governments in the rest of the world work to secure their citizens, except in Pakistan.

“Here they work for their own self and for their masters.”

Taking immediate action, City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Ali Dogar suspended SHO Shafiq Ahmed and launched an internal inquiry.

SP City Division Hassan Raza Khakhi was assigned to investigate the matter and submit a report.

However, public pressure continued to mount, demanding further action against the officer.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif took notice of the incident and ordered the immediate arrest of SHO Shafiq Ahmed.

In a statement, she emphasised that the self-respect of every citizen is a priority and vowed that such misconduct would not be tolerated.

She also directed Inspector General Punjab Dr Usman Anwar to submit a detailed report on the matter.

Following the chief minister’s intervention, legal proceedings were initiated against the accused policeman.

The case has raised serious concerns about the conduct of law enforcement in Pakistan, with many calling for stricter accountability measures.

Many users are demanding that improved training programs for law enforcement should be launched to prevent such incidents in the future.
