‘Ms Marvel’ features a Horde of South Asian Cast & Crew

Marvel Comics have announced a whole host of South Asian cast and crew members that will join Iman Vellani for the upcoming show ‘Ms Marvel’.

Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming production Ms Marvel has announced a vast array of South Asian cast and crew members.

The most notable is Pakistani-Canadian actress Iman Vellani who was announced as lead character Kamala Khan in September 2020.

Sixteen-year-old Kamala Khan is an avid gamer and writes fan fiction about superheroes, specifically Captain Marvel, with shapeshifting abilities.

The series, currently being shot in Atlanta, has reportedly wrapped up its first episode.

The six-episode show is scheduled to be completed by March or early April 2021.

Kamala Khan is the first-ever Muslim character to be featured in her own Marvel comic book.

On December 10, 2020, Marvel Studios announced a horde of other South Asian names that will be featuring in the series alongside Vellani.

Reportedly, ZEE5 web series Churails actress Nimra Bucha will also be featured in the Ms Marvel series.

No details have been disclosed yet about her character.

Other actors in the upcoming series Ms Marvel include San Antonio native and Los Angeles-based actor Saagar Shaikh.

Shaikh will play Amir Khan, the older brother of the show’s lead character Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani).

Taking to Twitter to share the news, the Unfair & Ugly actor shared that the Marvel role is his “dream job”.

Bollywood actor Mohan Kapur will be essaying a pivotal role in Marvel’s upcoming superhero web series, Ms Marvel.

The Bollywood actor, who was last seen in Sadak 2 (2020), did not reveal much detail about the web-series or his role in it.

However, he is clearly impressed by the way Marvel adhered to Covid-19 protocols during filming.

Mohan Kapur said:

“The Marvel team is unbelievable where Covid protocols are concerned.”

“The actors of the series have been classified in the Red Zone.

“This means that we have to undergo Covid tests thrice a week till as long as we are shooting.”

The episodes of the series will be directed by Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah of the Bad Boys for Life, Meera Menon of The Walking Dead, Dirty John and Outlander.

Academy Award-winning Pakistani director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy will also direct an episode of the upcoming show.

The show will also star Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman and Travina Springer among others.
