A mother named Jaskirat Kaur has been handed an indefinite hospital order after she admitted to killing her 10-year-old daughter Shay Kang.

Mother admits Killing 10-year-old Shay Kang f

"I would kill her again."

The murder of Shay Kang was one that shocked all in 2024.

The 10-year-old girl was killed by her mother Jaskirat Kaur and Shay’s body was discovered in Rowley Regis.

Kaur denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility.

The court believed that the mother had paranoid schizophrenia and thought she was being targeted by “lasers and technology”.

Kaur stabbed Shay Kang 11 times on March 4, 2024.

Hours after killing her daughter, Kaur phoned West Midlands Police and said: “My kid is dead.”

When the police arrived, Kaur told them that she saw “projections coming in and out” of the room.

She admitted: “It was me [who killed my daughter] because I didn’t want her getting took by.”

Kaur has now been sentenced to an indefinite hospital order. She was given this sentence on October 25, 2024.

She allegedly showed no emotion and had previously admitted to wanting to kill Shay Kang for the past seven months.

She confessed: “They can’t adopt her, they can’t take her.

“It’s not going to make sense, but to me it does.

“I was worried about Shay growing up. I knew that there needed to be an end date.

“I would kill her again. I wanted her to die and I don’t regret it.”

At the time of her death, Shay was in Year Five at Brickhouse Primary School.

The school described her as a “bright, happy, fun-loving child who was well-liked by all”.

For the first five years of her life, Shay and her mother lived with a friend named Kayleigh Colclough.

Kayleigh said that Shay “was an old soul – she was special, advanced, clever, funny”.

She added: “I just have the best memories of [Shay]. She made me happy.

“She would make me feel warm. That’s the sort of person she was.”

Shay apparently called Kayleigh her godmother or aunt.

Kayleigh said she “fell to the ground” and “just screamed” when she discovered Shay’s murder.

Talking about Kaur, Kayleigh said: “She just doesn’t exist to me now.

“At one point I had so much love for her as a sister, as a friend and there are certain points we had the best memories.

“But she just broke me when she took Shay and that’s one thing I can’t forgive.”

“I wanted it to go to trial. I just think [the manslaughter plea] the easy way out.

“For me, Shay will never be forgotten. I will always speak Shay’s name.

“Shay Kang deserves justice. She’s a special child. She didn’t ask for a lot, she just wanted to be loved.

“I miss her and I’m heartbroken and I just want the world to change.”
