"I wanted to say sorry to every single woman."
Mohsin Abbas Haider reacted with fury to the rape and murder of an Indian medic.
In August 2024, 31-year-old Moumita Debnath was found with multiple injuries and signs of sexual assault in Kolkata.
She had fallen asleep after a long shift and was raped and killed.
The incident triggered outrage in India with many protesting against violence against women.
Mohsin Abbas Haider tweeted about the incident.
He wrote: “I wanted to say sorry to every single woman on this planet.”
The actor added hashtags such as “#hangtherapist”.
However, his reaction attracted criticism from users who pointed out that Mohsin had been accused of beating his ex-wife Fatima Sohail.
One user said: “Look who is saying. You are one of those men who torture their wife.”
Another added: “Say sorry to your ex-wife first.”
In 2019, Fatima took to Facebook to allege that Mohsin had beaten her and committed infidelity.
She wrote: “I am Fatima, wife of Mohsin Abbas Haider and here is my story.
“On November 26, 2018, I caught my husband cheating.
“When I confronted him, instead of being embarrassed, he started beating me. I was pregnant at that time!
“He pulled my hair, dragged me on the floor, kicked me several times, punched me in the face, and threw me on the wall.
“I was brutally beaten by my husband. My caretaker! Traumatised me.
“[I] contacted a friend instead of family and was rushed to hospital.
“[The] doctor initially refused to do a checkup as it was a police case.
“I needed some time to digest the shock and not file a complaint.
“While I was in the operation theatre in Lahore, my husband was in Karachi sleeping with his girlfriend, Nazish Jehangir, an emerging model and actor.
“He later posts depressing statuses to get public attention. My family stood with me but my better half chose not to.
“Mohsin visited after two days of delivery just to take images and gain some publicity.
“He did not bother to check on his son. It was only a drama for social appreciation.”
“On July 17, I went to Mohsin’s home and asked him to take our son’s responsibility and he started beating me again! He refused to do anything for his son.”
The assault and murder of Moumita has caused a fierce demand for stricter punishments for rapists in India.
Criminal lawyer Rebecca M John stated some rapists still don’t believe that they would be punished for their crimes.
She said: “One of the factors would be the absence of fear of the law.”
On the work front, Mohsin Abbas Haider was last seen in Sirf Tum (2023).
