A London man who was executed on his doorstep had spoken on the phone to one of the three killers beforehand.

Three killers have been convicted of the murder of Iron Miah, who was shot dead on his doorstep in Whitechapel, London, in November 2019, in a “brutal execution”.

One of the killers was also found to be providing police with false intelligence and encouraging a prison guard to lie in court to implicate a co-defendant.

In the days leading up to the murder, Mr Miah had been anxious due to a series of messages he received on his phone.

On the night of November 19, Mr Miah arrived home at about 10 pm and received a call from Mohamed Moshaer Ali.

After the call, Mr Miah exited his home, got into a Honda Civic and spoke to the occupants.

After leaving the Honda, he sent a message to Ali, saying: “Viewing done.”

Mr Miah went to a local shop before walking back to his house. A man got out of the passenger door of a parked Volkswagen Polo.

He approached Mr Miah from behind and fired a shot to his head.

The victim died two days later in hospital from a catastrophic brain injury.

The gunman returned to the car and drove off, followed by the Honda Civic that had visited earlier.

The Polo was on false plates and has never been recovered.

Police said Antonio Afflick-McLeod and Aaron Campbell were believed to be the men in the Polo.

Following the shooting, detectives launched an investigation which led to five people being charged and three trials.

The murder weapon was never recovered but when Afflick-McLeod was arrested, drugs and a sawn-off shotgun were found at his home.

In the aftermath, Ali provided false intelligence to the police.

Once charged and remanded, he also encouraged prison officer Wiktoria Bujko at HMP Belmarsh to tell police lies to implicate one of his co-defendants. This caused the second trial in 2022 to collapse.

In May 2023, Bujko pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice.

The “painstaking” investigation required cell site data to piece together evidence.

The trio deliberately used burner phones but detectives managed to use data found on them to link the defendants to the killing.

A day before Mr Miah’s murder, a man bought a SIM card from a convenience store in Barking.

Using CCTV footage, police identified Afflick-McLeod by a neck tattoo. The SIM linked him to communications with Ali.

Detective Chief Inspector David Whellams said:

“My team have worked tirelessly over a long period of time to ensure that Iron’s family could receive the justice they deserve.

“This was a deliberate and callous act of violence in a residential area.”

“Nobody deserves to be the victim of such brutality and the three people convicted today will undoubtedly spend a significant time in jail. Our streets are safer without these people at large.

“I would like to pay tribute to Iron’s family, who have been extremely supportive of the investigation in the face of a long road to justice while living with the trauma of losing their loved one.”

Mr Miah’s killers will be sentenced on January 16, 2024.
