"Kal didn't see me as an equal."
The Love is Blind UK reunion aired on Netflix and it was revealed that Kal Pasha and Sarover Kaur Aujla’s marriage ended after just three months.
Kal and Sarover did say “I Do” at the altar but the final episode revealed that they were no longer together.
A year on from filming, Sarover has opened up about the sudden breakdown of her relationship with Kal, explaining that he “changed” once they were married.
Speaking to Cosmopolitan UK, the 29-year-old medical company owner said:
“It only lasted a few months.
“Marriage takes compromise, marriage takes two people together, two people making decisions, two people [that] go through everything together.
“And if I’m going to be honest, Kal didn’t see me as an equal.
“I didn’t feel like I had a voice in that relationship, I didn’t feel like I had a say and there was no compromise.
“At one point, it got to the 2nd of January, and he ended it without any conversation.
“It was, ‘This is the decision. This is the best for us’ and I was blindsided. I just got married. It had literally been three months and I didn’t know what happened.
“I didn’t know what went wrong and even when I tried to ask him later, it’s been horrible.
“I’ve got stuff like, he wasn’t in love, he’s saying that ‘nothing lasts forever’, and it just goes on and on. The Kal I fell in love with is not the Kal that I was married to when we came into the outside world.”
On whether she is still in contact with Kal, Sarover explained:
“I tried for months to get answers out of him and he wasn’t respectful and he never gave me those answers because I wanted to communicate [and say], ‘Let’s have a conversation. This is a real marriage’.
“And because of that, I can’t have communication with someone that doesn’t respect me, so there’s no communication there at all.”
Kal and Sarover became fan favourites on Love is Blind UK and during the series, they openly discussed their heritages and chose to focus on their bond.
Kal proposed in the pods, and their romance appeared strong.
During the couples’ retreat, however, cracks began to show.
Kal admitted Sarover was not his usual type. He usually dates blonde white women with blue eyes. This upset Sarover, but the pair moved past it.
Later, they met one another’s families. Both sides gave their approval, but Kal’s brother expressed doubt about the match. He even joked he would bet his life the marriage would not last.
Looking back, Sarover reflected on whether she would have acted differently:
“I think what I would have done differently was maybe given it a bit more time because I think if we got to the altar and we both said, ‘No, let’s date’, his true colours would have come out without me getting married.”
Addressing the split, Kal admitted: “I just don’t think I’m compatible in a long-term relationship, and it took me to meet on paper the perfect woman to realise that.”
While Sarover said she respected this revelation, she also shared that she wished he’d figured it out sooner.
