“The savings can help you buy other things"
A London-based mother has gone viral after sharing the benefits of raising her baby in a small flat.
Natasha, who lives in a compact Central London apartment with her husband and seven-month-old child, posted the video to Instagram.
She explained how the couple almost moved but ultimately decided to stay.
In the video, Natasha said: “All the reasons I’ve loved living in a small home with a baby”, joking she might be “gaslighting” herself into it.
Natasha’s honest take has connected with city-dwelling parents, especially those struggling with space.
She explained that limited space encourages minimalism. Natasha said new parents become far more mindful about what they bring into the home.
She said: “Every purchase is intentional and this makes you save on consumption costs as well as maintenance.”
Natasha also noted that these savings can be redirected:
“The savings can help you buy other things or even finance a family trip.”
According to her, one of the main benefits is cleanliness. With no space for clutter, tidying up becomes routine.
“You work to keep it clean and decluttered as there’s no room for mess.”
The mother also pointed out the practical side of parenting in a small home.
“You can hear your baby cry from anywhere and you can get to them in seconds.”
And despite the limited space, Natasha doesn’t think her baby is missing out.
“Babies require only a small space to play so you can stay at home or venture out to a park which is nearby since you live in the city.”
The layout of a smaller apartment, she said, promotes emotional closeness.
“There’s nowhere to escape to. You’re always together.”
But that doesn’t mean there’s no personal space at all, adding:
“If you need time away, you can actually go out to the gym or the spa to decompress rather than hide in your room.”

Natasha also made clear that she wasn’t trying to present small homes as better in every way.
“I hope it goes without saying I am confident a big home can give you many other wonderful things we can’t have but sharing this for anyone in a similar position as this is what I needed to hear when we were still deciding.”
The post has sparked hundreds of comments from fellow parents across the UK and beyond.
One mother said: “I appreciate having one floor so much with my newborn. Would actually recommend everyone to just stay in their flats until bubba is 1.”
Another added: “It’s not gaslighting, it’s making sense. Found your video at the right time.”
