Priya allegedly controls 60% of the estate directly.

The long-brewing dispute over late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s estate has erupted into a fierce courtroom battle involving his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, and his children with actor Karisma Kapoor.

On October 14, the Delhi High Court heard new arguments from Sunjay’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, who accused Priya of attempting to seize control of their rightful inheritance.

Represented by senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, the siblings alleged that Priya’s actions showed a “pattern of greed” and manipulation of the late industrialist’s estate.

Jethmalani’s remarks in court were scathing, as he claimed:

“The lady is an acute gambler, good luck to her. Good luck to her, but not at the cost of two children being robbed of their inheritance.”

The lawsuit, which also names Priya’s son Azarius, Sunjay’s mother Rani Kapur, and executor Shradha Suri Marwah, challenges the authenticity of Sunjay’s will, which was presented in March 2025.

The children argue that Sunjay had repeatedly assured them of their share, only for their inheritance to disappear from the final document.

Their counsel also criticised the will for excluding Sunjay’s mother entirely.

“Her exclusion defies logic and decency. It shows this document was not written by a son, but by someone who wanted his mother erased from the estate,” Jethmalani said.

According to the court filing, Priya allegedly controls 60% of the estate directly, 12% through her son, and 75% of the Kapur family trust.

“This isn’t inheritance. It’s a takeover – under the guise of widowhood,” Jethmalani declared.

The case has captivated public attention, pitting one of Delhi’s most prominent industrial families against itself.

Sunjay Kapur, chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away in London on June 12 from a reported heart attack while playing polo.

He was married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016 and shared two children with her.

He married Priya Sachdev in 2017, and the pair lived between India and London.

The inheritance row intensified when Priya requested that the estate’s financial details be disclosed under seal rather than publicly.

Though the Delhi High Court initially questioned the move, the request was later approved, with sealed copies shared with Samaira and Kiaan’s legal team.

What began as a private family matter has now evolved into a high-stakes courtroom showdown featuring allegations of greed, gambling, and an attempt to rewrite the late tycoon’s legacy.

Amid the controversy, Priya made a public tribute to Sunjay on what would have been his 54th birthday, sharing a heartfelt montage celebrating his life and values.

The video, which featured images of Samaira and Kiaan with their father, appeared to portray a picture of unity despite the ongoing tensions.

Her caption read: “You led with kindness, not command. You built with courage, not pride. You gave without expecting, because giving was your nature.

“I watched you move through storms with grace, carry burdens with calm, and turn every challenge into purpose.”

She added: “You will always stay in motion. You are the best husband, father, friend, and human being I know. Thank you for your eternal love.”

The tribute also featured a voice-over from Sunjay himself saying: “I’m here to protect my family. I’m here to make sure I pass on the right values to my children and to my family.”

While Priya’s post appeared reflective and affectionate, many observers viewed the inclusion of Karisma’s children in the montage as a diplomatic yet calculated gesture.

With the legal battle showing no signs of slowing down, the Kapur family’s internal rift continues to play out both in the courtroom and on social media.
