"His knowledge and passion for the industry were unparalleled."
On June 12, 2025, industrialist Sunjay Kapur passed away at the age of 53 in England.
He allegedly suffered a heart attack in the middle of a polo match.
Sunjay was the chairman of the auto components firm Sona Comstar.
In a statement, the company said: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Sunjay Kapur.
“A visionary leader, Kapur played a pivotal role in shaping Sona Comstar into a global mobility technology company built on innovation, sustainability, and purpose.”
On X, Rishi Kant expressed condolences. He wrote:
“I’m devastated beyond measure to hear of the untimely passing of Sunjay Kapur.
“A suave industrialist, he never let his privilege – or the fact that he led Sona Comstar to new heights – go to his head.
“He always made time for the media, always willing to talk regardless of how junior you were as a journalist.
“His knowledge and passion for the industry were unparalleled, and I could always rely on his insights for my reportage.
“I don’t know if it’s befitting or tragic that he purportedly left for his heavenly abode while playing polo – something he loved doing when not leading Sona Comstar.”

Sunjay was married to the renowned Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor for 13 years.
They married on September 29, 2003. The couple had a daughter named Samaira in 2005 and a son named Kiaan in 2011.
In 2014, Karisma and Sunjay filed for divorce through mutual consent, but withdrew their consent in November 2015.
The divorce was finalised in 2016. Shortly afterwards, Karisma filed a domestic violence case against Sunjay and his mother, Rani.
The actress accused them of physical abuse and claimed that Sunjay had been involved with another woman.
Sunjay was also summoned by the Mumbai police following Karisma’s additional filing of a dowry harassment case against the businessman.
Karisma also alleged that during their honeymoon, Sunjay had forced her to sleep with his friends.
She added that he had once told his mother to slap her when she was unable to fit into a dress while pregnant.
Nevertheless, following Sunjay’s death, Karisma was visited at home by her sister Kareena Kapoor Khan and her husband Saif Ali Khan.
Before marrying Karisma, Sunjay was married to the fashion designer Nandita Mahtani from 1996 to 2000.
After divorcing the Raja Hindustani actress, he married Priya Sachdev in 2017. In 2018, they had a son named Azarias.
Priya and Sunjay remained together until his death.
On June 9, 2025, just three days before his death, Sunjay Kapur posted on X:
“Your time on Earth is limited. Leave the ‘what-ifs’ to the philosophers and instead dive headfirst into the ‘why-nots’.”
