"I feel like I would like to be a parent. I don't know how it's going to happen but I do feel the need"
The latest Bollywood celebrity to enter parenthood is the 44-year-old owner of Dharma Productions, Karan Johar.
Filmmaker Johar tweeted saying: “[The babies are the] two most wonderful additions to my life and lifelines.
“This was an emotional yet a well thought out decision which I have taken after considering all the responsibilities and duties that come with being a parent.”
The tiny tots will be known as Roohi and Yash.
The name of baby Roohi is a rearrangement of Karan mother’s name Hiroo and the name of Yash is derived from the name of Karan’s late father, Yash Johar, who was a celebrated filmmaker of Bollywood, himself.
According to some reports in Indian media, Roohi and Yash were born to a surrogate mother, in February 2017 at Mumbai’s Masrani Hospital.
Notably, it’s the same hospital where Bollywood megastar, Shahrukh Khan’s youngest child, AbRam was born via surrogacy.
Karan Johar’s fans and friends from Bollywood fraternity have been showering him with congratulatory messages on various social media platforms, the prominent ones being Priyanka Chopra, Farah Khan, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra among others.
Unlike many other Bollywood stars, Shahrukh Khan, didn’t tweet about his happiness over Karan Johar becoming a father.
Instead, when asked about Karan Johar announcing his fatherhood on Twitter, SRK who took part in ‘Mijwan Summer 2017’, said:
“It’s a personal moment. Let’s respect the privacy. Of course we all are very happy. We wish him happiness. It’s still very personal. So, don’t think I am being cagey by not answering about it.
“I have had this moment in my life so I know how personal it is. So, let’s respect it and leave it at that. We will have love, celebrations, happiness and health later.”
In his autobiography titled, The Unsuitable Boy, which was released in January 2017, Karan Johar had hinted at his wish to become a father:
“I don’t know what I’m going to do about it but I feel like I would like to be a parent. I don’t know how it’s going to happen but I do feel the need because I have plenty of love to offer and I’d like to take it forward,” Karan said in the book.
This quote may have been recorded at some point in Karan’s life which was later published in the book.
The filmmaker who has given Bollywood one of the most memorable movie of all times Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is said to have prepared himself in every manner to welcome the arrival of the precious little ones in his life:
“I have submitted to the fact that my children are my world and priority,” informed the television host of the popular Indian chat show series Koffee with Karan.
Prior to Karan Johar, Bollywood personalities, Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Tusshar Kapoor have opted for surrogacy to become parents.
It must be noted that Karan Johar and Tusshar Kapoor are single parents.
India is progressing in all fields including medical science. Singles or couples who are unable to have babies naturally due to some medical, personal or social condition are increasingly choosing methods like IVF and surrogacy.
