"He is very snooty, very classist."
The war of words between Kangana Ranaut and Karan Johar never seems to end.
In a recent interview, Kangana called Karan a “local villain”. She also recalled her appearance on his chat show Koffee With Karan.
Kangana Ranaut appeared in the fifth season of the show along with Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor.
During the popular ‘Rapid Fire’ segment, Kangana told Karan:
“If my biopic is ever made, you’ll play that stereotypical Bollywood biggie who is very snooty, intolerant to outsiders, the flag-bearer of nepotism, the movie mafia.”
Visibly shocked, Karan exclaimed: “I think Star World just got its promo!”
Reflecting on her statement, Kangana Ranaut said: “Karan Johar is a local villain. If my biopic is made now, there will be a bigger villain.
“There are bigger villains in my life now. He knows what he has done.
“He is very snooty, very classist, and he was taken aback that I gave it back to him. That was also a time.
“You say two things about the industry and you move on. Who can do anything?”
Although Karan Johar made light of Kangana’s comment on his show, he reacted with fury afterwards.
During an interview with Anupama Chopra at the London School of Economics, the filmmaker said:
“When Kangana said ‘movie mafia’, what does she mean? What does she think we are doing? Not giving her work?
“We do that by choice. I want to say I’m done with Kangana playing the ‘victim’ card and the ‘woman’ card.
“You cannot be a victim at every point of time who has a sad story to tell about how you’ve been terrorised by the bad world of the industry.
“Leave it – do something else.”
Despite their animosity, Kangana Ranaut has done a film for Karan’s Dharma Productions company. The film was Ungli (2014).
Talking about the film, Kangana admitted: “I have done a film for Karan Johar. He gave me a two-minute role in Ungli.
“That is the biggest flop of my career. I never want any more work from him.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Karan last helmed Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023).
He recently announced his next directorial venture which is scheduled to be released in 2025.
Kangana Ranaut is currently gearing up for Emergency. It is expected to be released on September 6, 2024.
However, the actress admitted that the film was facing censorship problems, throwing plans into disarray.
