Sunrisers dominated the match with a towering 286-6
Jofra Archer had a match to forget as he recorded the most expensive bowling figures in Indian Premier League history.
He conceded 76 runs in four wicketless overs during Rajasthan Royals’ 44-run defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 23, 2025.
The England fast bowler surpassed India’s Mohit Sharma, who conceded 73 runs in four overs for Gujarat Titans against Delhi Capitals in 2024.
In T20 internationals, Gambia’s Musa Jobarteh holds the worst figures, conceding 93 against Zimbabwe last year.
Among Test-playing nations, Sri Lanka’s Kasun Rajitha has the record with 0-75 against Australia in 2019.
Sunrisers dominated the match with a towering 286-6, one run short of their own IPL record.
India’s Ishan Kishan led the charge with an unbeaten 106 off 47 balls. Australia’s Travis Head set the tone early, smashing 67 off 31 deliveries. Heinrich Klaasen added a late flourish with 34 from 14.
Archer had his opening over taken for 23, with Head slamming four fours and a six around a wide.
The bowler’s second over went for 12 as Nitish Kumar Reddy (30 off 15) struck two fours, while his third conceded 22 as Kishan flogged three of his six sixes on the day.
Archer’s final over was then lashed for 23 as three fours for Heinrich Klaasen and one for Kishan came around a full-toss no-ball that flew away for four byes.
The Royals were overwhelmed as Sunrisers stormed to 94-1 in the powerplay. They reached 200 in the 15th over, leaving Rajasthan with a near-impossible chase.
Royals stumbled early at 50-3 before Sanju Samson (66 off 37) and Dhruv Jurel (70 off 35) revived hopes with a 111-run stand. Both fell in consecutive overs, and Rajasthan finished on 242-6.
Harshal Patel led Sunrisers’ bowling attack with 2-34. Captain Pat Cummins struggled, conceding 60 runs without a wicket.
Sunrisers now have four of the five highest totals in the IPL, with three of those coming in 2024.
Sunrisers reached the IPL final in 2024 but lost to Kolkata Knight Riders. The defending champions began their campaign with a loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
In Sunday’s second match, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra guided Chennai Super Kings to a four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians with an unbeaten 65.
Jofra Archer’s unwanted record adds to Rajasthan’s concerns, with their bowling under pressure after a heavy defeat.
Sunrisers, meanwhile, made an emphatic statement as they seek their first IPL title since 2016.
