"Credit should always be shared equally."
Writer Syed Nabeel has finally addressed the controversy surrounding Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi, clarifying Shamoon Abbasi’s claim about the drama.
Speaking on actor Syed Jibran’s YouTube channel, he confirmed that the concept of the show indeed came from Shamoon Abbasi.
He said: “Shamoon is absolutely right that the idea was his, and I have never denied his involvement in the project.”
However, he explained that there is a significant difference between giving an idea and writing a complete television script.
According to Syed, he was responsible for building the story’s structure, creating the dialogues, and shaping the characters.
He added that writing a screenplay involves more than a concept, as it demands narrative flow and emotional consistency.
Syed Nabeel emphasised that both he and Shamoon played crucial roles.
He clarified that Shamoon Abbasi initially wanted to direct Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi.
However, due to internal production changes, the direction was assigned to Saifi Hassan.
He praised Saifi Hassan for his brilliant execution and said that his direction added a special charm to the horror comedy.
“Saifi’s handling of the project made the story come alive on screen.”
He also stated that he, Shamoon, and Saifi were all responsible for the show’s success and that no one person could claim complete credit.
Syed Nabeel added: “The success of a drama is never predictable before it airs, and credit should always be shared equally.”
His clarification came after Shamoon Abbasi took to social media, claiming that the drama’s entire concept and title belonged to him.
Shamoon stated that he had developed the story, titled Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi, and narrated it to Syed long before production began.
He also revealed that he was meant to direct the project for Hum TV but was replaced when the production team made new decisions.
The claim caused a storm online, with fans debating over creative ownership and transparency in Pakistan’s television industry.
Following the online uproar, many demanded that due recognition be given to Shamoon Abbasi for contributing to the original idea.
However, Syed’s calm and detailed response helped clarify that while Shamoon was the source of inspiration.
He further stated that disputes like this often emerge in the entertainment industry because people overlook how many minds shape a single project.
“There are no ups and downs in our story. It is people who create conflicts outside the creative space.”
Syed Nabeel stressed that Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi owes its popularity to teamwork, including the efforts of the cast and the direction team.
The show, which blends elements of horror and comedy, has become one of the most talked-about series on Hum TV.
Viewers have praised its unique storyline, humour, and exceptional performances that distinguish it from other mainstream dramas.
He concluded by saying that instead of focusing on disputes, the audience should celebrate how the project broke new ground for Pakistani television.
Despite the controversy, Jinn Ki Shadi Unki Shadi continues to receive admiration for its creativity and for introducing a fresh genre to local screens.
