“Either way, it won’t affect our business.”

Jaaz Multimedia’s Jinn 3, which was initially released exclusively at Star Cineplex, was removed from the multiplex 12 days after its debut.

The decision, which had been part of a strategic release plan, was made after the film struggled commercially.

The film was initially expected to expand to more theatres if it performed well.

However, Jinn 3 failed to generate the audience turnout that was needed to stay in cinemas for a longer period.

Abdul Aziz, the owner of Star Cineplex and the producer of Jinn 3, explained the initial plan to release the film exclusively in multiplexes.

Unlike Jaaz Multimedia’s previous films, which were shown in multiple theatres across Bangladesh, Jinn 3 took a more selective approach.

Aziz maintained that this decision was strategic, designed to give the film a premium release.

He stated: “We’re not interested in releasing the film in just a few single-screen halls. If we can, we’ll expand to more single screens after Eid; if not, we won’t.

“Either way, it won’t affect our business.”

The producer stressed that the choice not to roll out in smaller theatres wouldn’t cause a financial loss for the company.

However, Jinn 3’s commercial performance did not live up to expectations.

Despite being released during the busy Eid season, sources from Star Cineplex revealed that audience turnout was consistently low.

The film’s lacklustre box office performance led to its removal from the multiplex after just 12 days.

Following this, Star Cineplex redirected its resources to other Eid releases, boosting show times for popular films.

This included the hits Borbaad, Daagi, Jongli, and Chokkor 302.

Shajal Noor and Nusraat Faria lead the cast of Jinn 3, which generated some buzz before its release.

The buzz heightened considerably with its catchy song ‘Konna’, performed by Kona and Imran.

However, the film’s lack of sustained interest left it struggling at the box office.

The quick removal of Jinn 3 highlights the unpredictable nature of film releases in Bangladesh.

Even star-studded films can face hurdles in securing audiences in the country.

Previously, to everyone’s shock, megastar Shakib Khan’s Antaratma was removed from Star Cineplex just a day after its release on April 2, 2025.

Star Cineplex’s senior marketing official Mesbah Ahmed confirmed the decision, stating:

“If a film doesn’t attract audiences, we replace it with screenings of movies that are in demand.

“Since Antaratma was pulled, other films have gained more shows.”
