"The storyline intrigued me from the start."

Bangladeshi filmmaker Asif Islam has officially announced his upcoming film Jatri and it will star Jannatul Oishee.

The exciting news was shared on October 22, 2024, with both Asif and Oishee expressing their enthusiasm for the project.

While specific details about the rest of the cast remain unknown, it has been confirmed that Jatri will centre around a city-based narrative.

The film will explore the intricacies of urban life and relationships.

Oishee is particularly thrilled to return to the silver screen after a significant hiatus from acting.

Her last project, Noor, where she starred alongside Arifin Shuvoo, completed filming in November 2021.

But since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting updates on her next appearance.

Reflecting on her new role, Jannatul Oishee shared her journey of reconnecting with Asif.

She said: “I first spoke with Asif bhai about six months ago. The storyline intrigued me from the start.

“After that initial conversation, there was no follow-up, and I assumed he might have chosen someone else for the role.”

In actual fact, Asif had been busy with commitments to the Moscow Festival.

She expressed her excitement about the collaboration, adding:

“A few days ago, he reached out to me again, and things moved forward from there.”

Asif Islam elaborated on the film’s premise: “Jatri is a love story, a genre I’ve never explored before.

“I wrote the script years ago but never moved forward with it—perhaps because the timing never felt right before.”

He aims to present the narrative in a unique way.

“What makes this story unique is the way it unfolds.”

“While love stories are common, I aim to present it through two contrasting perspectives, offering viewers a fresh take on the genre.”

The entire film will be shot in Dhaka, with production set to begin in the winter months.

This is because the storyline is linked to that specific season.

Asif Islam previously made his directorial debut as a co-director on the film Pathshala and later directed Nirvana.

Nirvana delves into the everyday struggles of three factory workers and received critical acclaim.

The film secured the Special Jury Award at the 46th Moscow International Film Festival.

With Jatri, Asif Islam is poised to embark on his third directorial venture, and anticipation is high among fans and industry insiders alike.
